Message from Lisa
Hello to you and the beginning of May. It is my favorite month as and i like to say" May the 4th be with you!

It has been a busy first quarter of the year and now we are easing into summer and hopefully warmer weather. Business is picking up for me and I'm pretty much working each Saturday to be with mom. I finished my Tilda quilt and she turned out really cute. I started two new projects and trying to sort and pull items for the Quilters Yard Sale. Mark your calendars because there will be great deals for everyone.

Betsy and I attended the Habitat Open House today and delivered our quilts to the family. The organizer for Habitat and I had a great conversation and I think we will be making quilts for future houses in Powhatan! So get involved with the Quilting Sisters if you want to be a part of this great adventure.

Our Wool group has expanded to include a few more groups of ladies. So please make plans to join our monthly group and have a few hours of fun and time to work on your projects. We will have a future field trip soon to another great shop. So come join our special group of ladies.

It seems like every weekend in May my calendar is full. but I managed to schedule a Sip and Sew in June for our quilters. So mark your calendar for June 24th. I plan on picking fresh strawberries soon and freezing them for our fun day of sewing and sipping!

Please tell your friends about me and my quilting services. You will get a 10% discount on your next project and your friend will also get 10% off her first quilt. Word of mouth is the best way my business grows. Thanks in Advance.

Excited for all the new things happening at Shining Star! Trixie and I will see you very soon.

Lisa

Do you like to sew for charity? Do you like to sew with friends? Come join our new group of quilter's who have a passion to make items and give back to the community. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse, 1956 Urbine Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. We start at 9 AM and sew until 3 PM.

Our next meeting is May 13th, starting at 9 am. Please bring your machines. We will have blocks to sew for our 4th Firehouse quilt. But you may want to pack a project of your own to fill our time.

Betsy and myself attended the Open House for the Habitat family and delivered our two quilts to the family. They were so excited to get their quilts. Great news that we have a new family that will be getting a house in November. I will be meeting the family to hear their color choices. So we have three more quilts to make this summer. I think Habitat just found a new supporter for their homes. I'm so excited. Nicci invited our group back to her open house dedication in June.

For our June meeting we will be making the rest of the NICU hearts to finish this project for now. We have 3 hospitals that support currently.

We also support a nursing home in Farmville and you can give those quilts to Betsy and she will deliver those when they need them.

Future Projects:
May - Firehouse Quilts
June - Heart Pillows for NICU Units.
June - Pillowcases
July - Habitat House Quilts
Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, May 16th. Doors open at 9 AM. This group has room for more people. So if you have wanted to learn how to do wool projects or where to start, then you need to be at our next meeting. We are going to open this group up to also include Punch needle, rug hooking and Cross Stitch. I think we have many more people who can join our group now. It is a place to learn new things all the time.

Future Projects:
May - Work on a project of your choice
June - Work on a project of your choice
July - Road Trip?

Lisa now has a Sissix cutter and a few dyes. Just let her know if you want to use one during the meeting to cut something.

New Favorite Wool Site: Old Tattered Flag. I just love all her stuff and thanks for sharing this location with the group. We now have several of the dies.
Millstone Quilts
Annual Quilt Show and free lunch from 10 AM until 4 PM with 25% off the items in the store.

I went last year and it was a great little show. The food was great! I have a few of my quilts on loan for the show. So go and see the great work of many quilters!

Prayers for many of our quilting sisters.....
We have many on our list to keep in your prayers. Jan H. has finished her chemo. Lynah has been home for a short visit but will be back at Duke for her next treatment. Joy has her boot off and getting around pretty well. Jane E. is doing really great since her back procedure and feeling very well. Bonnie B. is doing great after her procedure and we are thankful for that! Katina P. will be having surgery on her frozen shoulder so pray for her. Colleen had a nephew pass away so keep her in your prayers. Merci K. is taking care of her mom who fell and broke her nose and is now in rehab. We have folks who have been traveling and are getting ready to travel. Safe journeys to everyone!
So please pray for healing and surgeries and traveling mercies for our Quilting Sisters. We have a very special group of ladies and you each have a special place in my heart! Lisa
