May 22, 2023

From the Desk of Mr. Marty Van Hulle, Principal

SAL Parents:

Congratulations to Mrs. Cloherty and her second graders on receiving the blessed sacrament of holy communion this past weekend! Father Tony talked to the second graders about how Jesus is both the Alpha and the Omega and how he is with us always. The first communicants received beautiful handmade bookends to exemplify that Jesus was with us in the beginning and that he will be with us in the end.

And speaking of bookends, we are just days away from wrapping up the 2022-23 school year. Despite having just a few days remaining, we have a flurry of activities taking place. Our spring concert is set for Wednesday evening and High Interest Day closes out our week on Friday. Next Wednesday, our 8th graders wrap up their time at SAL with their graduation ceremony and Thursday, June 1 marks our final day with students.

As we close out the year, we want to take the opportunity to thank all those who volunteered their time and talent to provide so many great experiences for students. Simply put, we couldn’t do what we do without the tremendous support and assistance from our parent volunteers. Thank you to all!

Have a great week ahead!

Take care and God bless,

M. Van Hulle

Principal, SAL

Spring Concert

Our school Spring Concert is this Wednesday, May 24th at 6pm. The students have been practicing for months and are excited to perform songs of "Going to the Zoo" and "Singing around the Campfire." All grades are asked to arrive by 5:45 and sit in their designated area with their class. 3K-5K should wear their "Spring best" attire. Grades 1-8 wear white tops with black bottoms.

High Interest Day

It is High Interest week - woohoo!! This Friday, May 26th, is our High Interest Day for students and we are so excited for all of the great sessions our students will be exposed to. It is going to be such an amazing event. Children should wear comfy clothes and tennis shoes, bring a bag lunch and beach towel to sit on during the picnic lunch and come ready to have fun. They will also have the opportunity to purchase lemonade (50 cents a cup) to support our Alex's Lemonade stand. All of the money raised will go towards the fight against childhood cancer. Please reach out to Liz Kurowski, Heather Waldraff or Marlo Dentice-Johnson if you have any questions. Thanks so much!!

In order for this day to run smoothly, we need parent volunteers! Please consider signing up for a specific session, helping with the younger classes as they travel from session to session, setting up, cleaning up or just being willing to help wherever you are needed that day. Your children will love seeing you there!

We also are in need of supplies for our sessions. Please sign up to bring supplies and bring them to the school office by Wednesday, May 24th. If you have empty 2L bottles, cardboard milk cartons or gallon milk jugs we can use those too! Thank you in advance for making this day happen.

Culver's Night - Tuesday, May 23

This Tuesday is our final Culver's Night of the school year. This is a fun a family friendly event and we have had a great response from our school and parish families. Let's be sure to keep in mind that we are representing our school and want to show the larger community what great kids we have at St. Anthony on the Lake!

As a reminder, SCRIP can be purchased for Culver's gift cards. This doubles the impact by supporting both our SCRIP program and our Culver's Night! See you then!

Uniform Reminders

Now that it is May, uniform shorts may be worn to school. Please remember that shorts may not be worn on Wednesdays to Mass. Students will be asked to change into uniform pants for Mass if they arrive at school in shorts.

Mother/Son Hiking Event

The Boy Scout families have Rescheduled the Mother/Son Hiking event for June 11th at Retzer Nature Center. Sign up for event here.

Save the Date - SAL Golf Outing

Be sure to put in next year's SAL Golf Outing on your calendars for Friday, September 15 at the Western Lakes Golf Club. Additional information will be coming soon. We hope to see you there!

Kyler's Krew

As many of you may know, Kyler Hogan, who will be joining the SAL family as a 3K’er next year, is courageously battling leukemia. Kyler and his family (Nolan, grade 4 and Ana, grade 2) have been in our prayers and you may have witnessed friends of the family sporting “Kyler's Krew” gear as a sign of support. Please know that if you’d like to join in supporting the Hogans you can access Kyler's Krew items via https://www.bonfire.com/store/kylers-krew/. Of course, your prayers are also very important and very much appreciated! The proceeds go to benefit Kyler's ongoing treatment as well as other kids battling childhood cancer.

First Student Bus Families

First Student requires registration for the bus every school year. If you reside in the Waukesha School District and use First Student to transport your children to and/or from St. Anthony, please complete this form by June 15 so they can plan for bussing for next school year.

SCRIP

Thank you to everyone who supported SCRIP and our School this month - particularly those that completed the SCRIP Agreement, downloaded the RaiseRight App, and purchased gift cards through the SCRIP program. Our sales for the month of April were $7,210 - of which $567.60 of SCRIP Rebates were earned. We hope that our May sales can beat April's sales!

For more information on the SCRIP Program, visit Scrip | St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic Church and School, W280N2101 Prospect Avenue, Pewaukee, WI 53072 (stanthony.cc)

Altar Server Volunteer Opportunity

SAL is looking for students in grades 6-8 to participate as altar servers during the weekend masses. Deacon Dennis will host a training session for those interested and work around schedules so that students can serve at either the 5:00 Saturday service or one of the three masses on Sunday morning. If interested, please let Mr. Van Hulle know and he will connect you with Deacon Dennis. This is a great way to obtain more service hours!

23-24 School Calendar
Here is the 2023-24 SAL School Calendar. The only event for which dates have not yet been solidified are those associated with the 8th Grade trip to Washington DC. We will get those dates as soon as they are finalized.

2023-24 SAL Athletics Information

Please check out the 2023-24 Student Athletics schedule. This gives an overview of the grades to whom the various teams are open, seasons dates, fees, etc. If there are any questions can be directed to athletics@stanthony.cc

2023-2024 Athletic Registration is now open. Any youth who attend St. Anthony on the Lake's school or faith formation program are invited to register.

The next athletics committee meeting will be held Tuesday, May 30 from 7:00-8:30 in the gym.

Parent Volunteer Expectations

St. Anthony on the Lake School is a strong, vibrant school due to the help of many volunteers! Please remember, all families are expected to sign up for 3 specific duties per trimester. If you are unable to come to help during the school day, you are asked to sign up and then get a sub from the sub list.

Please sign up for your required three time slots! These are our immediate needs:

May 23 - Lunch Helper

May 31 - Playground Helper, Health Room

Most duties will take place from 11:15-12:45pm (11:30am arrival time for Health Room).

Please note: ALL volunteers must participate in Safe Environment education before they may

volunteer.

**Our KM Lunch Coordinator, Angele Stoltenburg, will be out of town May 15-27. She will have a substitute in her place who has been training with her. Please consider signing up to cover these days to help keep our hot lunch service running smoothly.

Safe Environment Education

Anyone who is volunteering in any manner here at St. Anthony on the Lake will need to participate in a one-time training titled “Safe Environment Education”. This training is mandated by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Training is now available virtually. To register please go to “Safe Environment” page on the Milwaukee Archdiocese website and click on register for Safe Environment (on the left hand side of the page). Again, this training, along with a background check is a one-time training requirement for all adults.

Family Promise - Our Partners in Mercy
YOU can lift spirits of vulnerable people - In 2022 Family Promise received over 800 requests for shelter. The needs of families are growing. Homelessness is a destructive and chaotic force.
YOU can help transform lives - Having a home gives children and families an anchor that allows them to thrive.
YOU can make a difference by volunteering for Family Promise - 69% of families who exit Family Promise of Waukesha County shelter find permanent and independent housing.
Family Promise is embarking on a new static site model where volunteers come to a designated, stationary site to serve families experiencing homelessness. This model will be implemented beginning April 2023. It will take place at the Waukesha Overflow Shelter located at 1210 Sentry Dr, Waukesha WI 53186.
HOW? St Anthony invites you to be one of 2-5 volunteers from 5-8 p.m. for one day. YOU prepare a nutritious meal for 1-5 families and spend time meaningfully connecting with them at the Shelter. Nutrition is vital  to mental and physical health, and so is compassion! St. Anthony will have one day each month for 7 months in 2023.
YOU will feel confident you can help after two online training courses - completed at your own pace, and one in person session. Anyone with direct contact must be trained. All previously trained individuals must be re-trained for the new shelter, regardless of what training they might have had in the past.
YOU can help others realize their true potential by being compassionate, listening, and engaging with Family Promise families! For more information check out this website:
LEARN MORE https://www.familypromisewaukeshawi.org/volunteer and click on the last link on the page under "ARE YOU INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE?" if you'd like to volunteer!
Prayers, Gratitude, and Celebration

Congratulations to our 2nd Graders who completed their First Holy Communion over the weekend! Please keep them in your prayers as they enter more fully into the Church family.

Please pray for Kyler Hogan and the entire Hogan family.

Please continue to keep the Hansen family in your prayers.
