Did you forget the mustard?

Clay and Abby work hard. They are excited to be at their favorite burger spot for a fun night out, but when the burger arrives...

When we see bad news

First, did we check our facts? Are they what we think? Why do we think that? How do we know?

If the facts are real, is it possible they reflect some misunderstanding? People seeing something through different lenses? Maybe the other person is provably “wrong.” But maybe we would also be “wrong,” if we were in their shoes?

Maybe the other person is part of a group that we cheerfully label and discount, applying labels instead of treating other humans as individuals.

Maybe we go quickly to seeing the world as a highly threatening place that demands drastic actions.

What makes us happier and healthier?

If you look at the sequence, which reactions would you guess drive human happiness and effectiveness?

Responses starting near the top of the list? Or reactions 4 or 5?

Who do you think is a more welcome guest at the restaurant?

Who do you think is more credible, telling friends about the restaurant?

Who do you want to be?

Happy, welcome and trusted?

Or chronically resentful, avoided, unheard?

Which will you choose?

What do you think? Let us know.

Meet our Board

We include adults of all ages, all genders, all sexualities, all colors, and all political views. We are multi-ethnic and multi-cultural. What do we have in common? All of us refuse to watch helplessly as the lack of civil discourse damages learning, personal well-being, and opportunities to contribute.

American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith

We encourage The Neutral Ground committers to check out this exhibit at The Historic New Orleans Collection to learn about our nation’s bold experiment to create a government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

Across two floors at their Tricentennial Wing, explore the many aspects of citizen participation, debate, and compromise from America's democratic origins to the present day.

Admission is free! Learn more and reserve free tickets.
