THE METHODIST MESSENGER

Making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

"Value Added,” means that once a base line value is assigned to an item, any and all improvements add value or worth. So, if you start off with a basic model of anything and change it for the better it is worth more. The more positive the change, i.e., the more “value added” and the more an item is worth.

People are not items. We are created in the image of God, in the Latin, “imago dei.”  This makes us incredibly special in the sight of God. Sin has damaged us and the world around us. Even though we are scarred and less than perfect, our value in relationship to God is not changed at all. We are still created in His image, but now we need restoration, or to be revived. Maturing in our faith is part of the restoration process. Jesus was invested into us that we might believe in him and be fully restored. Our ultimate value never changes but as we are changed bit by bit, as part of the living body of Christ, we add value to the world around us. This is our witness for Christ.

We are called to live boldly for Christ. What we say and do adds value, importance and meaning to all our relationships whether they are personal, educational, or business related. We add value to the world simply by living for Jesus.  We have not been asked to do the impossible, rather we have been transformed that the impossible might done through us. We are part of something much bigger than just ourselves. We are part of the Body of Christ. The Church, our church, is of eternal value and significance in the Kingdom of God.  What we say and do reflects God’s love in us and through us. This changes the lives of those around us and thusly the world. We are not the same. We are redeemed, restored and ready to serve our Lord. May our community, the world and all eternally be changed for the better because we boldly lived out our faith today! I’m so glad to be a part of the body of Christ, to be a part of the Church called, First Methodist Church of Center, Texas! See ya Sunday Saints!

Blessings,

Pastor Malcolm

Our sincerest thanks for the beautiful olive wood cross. It stayed with us the entire hospital stay. Your prayers were a great source of strength and hope. The surgeon was able to remove all of the cancer and we have a surgical cure. Praise the Lord!

Thank you, Bill and Gina Ferren

"Therefore I tell you do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air, they do not reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Matthew 6:25-27

When I am assailed by my worries, clutching them to my heart like old but troubled friends, allowing them to become uppermost in my heart, obliterating joy and peace of mind, I turn in my Bible to read the above words of Jesus for the comfort and relief that they provide, for the reminder that my worries are exercises in futility, accomplishing exactly nothing other than causing me to concentrate on the negatives in my life, making my thoughts selfish, and my days grim and hopeless. Furthermore, reading these words reminds me that my worrying is a lack of faith that causes me to lose sight of my value in the eyes of God and His love for me. Dear God, thank You for the reassurance of Your love and willingness to bear our burdens that is given through the words of Jesus. Grant me peace of mind, guide me through the troubled times when my worries threaten to overwhelm the good in my life and the love You have for us all. Amen.
