THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHT

Scholarship recipient visits White House, WHCA dinner

Caroline Zimmerman, the White House Correspondents' Association scholarship recipient from KU, visited the White House the weekend of April 29-30. She visited the White House briefing room and participated in an on-the-record briefing with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. She also attended a luncheon with remarks from Sen. Amy Klobuchar and a panel with White House Correspondents Weijia Jiang (CBS), Sabrina Siddiqui (The Wall Street Journal). She also met President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The WHCA provides scholarships to promising journalism students at partner colleges and universities around the country. In addition to the financial assistance, the students are invited to the annual WHCA dinner in Washington, D.C., featured at a scholarship luncheon the day before, and paired, when possible, with volunteers from the White House press corps for a year of mentoring.
