Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

I'm not sure about you, but I can't believe that spring break is next week! I know that our students, teachers, and staff have been working hard throughout this third quarter and we are all looking forward to this much-deserved spring holiday!

This week, we will celebrate the culmination of our scholar quiz event with our final competitions! We are down to four brilliant, talented groups of students and I can't wait to see who makes it to our final competition on Tuesday! Our final competition will be held at lunch on Tuesday in the gym. I encourage all of our

students and community members to come out and cheer on our final teams! It was an amazing week of academic competition and I applaud all of our student teams that participated in our event this year!

Our visual and performing arts department is on full display right now! I encourage you to check out our talented artists, dancers, and performers. Our visual arts program has an incredible showcase, In Other Words..., on display at the PV Peninsula Library through the beginning of April. On Wednesday night, the drama department gave our incoming 9th-grade parents a glimpse at their upcoming show, Something Rotten. It is going to be an amazing show that is bound to sell out so I encourage you to get your tickets soon! The show is on two weekends: April 14-16 and April 20-23 and you can get your tickets HERE. And finally, our impressive Choreo team is performing their spring show, Expressions in Dance, on March 22 and 23 at the James Armstrong Theater. Come check it out this week and celebrate our PVHS dancers! I am continually impressed by our student performers and artists. Let's get out and support the Sea King arts!

As always, thank you for your ongoing support of our PVHS community.

Have a wonderful Sunday and see you around campus!

Sincerely,

Dr. Trista Ramirez

Principal

PVHS Hosts "Lucky to Be a Sea King" on St. Patrick's Day

On Friday, students wore green to celebrate both St. Patrick's Day and Lucky to be a Sea King Day, hosted by PVHS ASB. Students wrote personal messages on a shamrock of who they are lucky to have at PVHS and ASB placed them on the backdrop poster on stage at Senior Park to spread the positivity. To bring some fun to the special day, there was a spirit rally at snack where students competed on who could first finish a Shamrock Shake first(Congratulations Pat Klink on his victory). PVHS Staff all wore new custom green Kings shirts to join in on the spirit. To cap the amazing day off, PVHS Baseball won a walk-off victory against Santa Monica in their green jerseys in their first league game of the season.

Lucky to be a Sea King Day turned out to be a great success!

A special thanks Mrs. Maxfield for

organizing such a fun spirit day!

Live from 205 Brings Home the Excellence Award!

Live from 205 students attended the 4-day Student Television Network Convention in Long Beach this week. The group also received an honorable mention for their Crazy 8's High School Morning Show. One of our 205 members, Daisy Warner, was also selected to serve as a presenter today at the final awards ceremony. It was also wonderful to see our PVHS alumni and previous 205 anchor, Charlotte Cicero, at the convention. Charlotte was invited back to STN this year as an intern for the convention.

PVHS Ethnic Studies Class: Joint Field Trip

Our PVHS students took their second joint field trip with Peninsula High School this week. The students visited the Chinese American Museum in Downtown Los Angeles. Thank you to Ms. Varela for arranging these amazing opportunities for our kids!

Anatomy Honors Lab: Hands-On Learning at Its Best!

This week in Mrs. Salgado's Physiology and Anatomy class, students completed a dissection lab to learn about the muscular, digestive, and respiratory systems. The students used a cat for their dissection lab, as their systems are almost identical to ours as humans.

Mrs. Salgado loves to see strong student engagement in this lesson. "To see the cats' lungs or deltoids and for students to realize ours looks the same is a pretty cool hands-on learning experience. Many students were impressed with how large the liver was and asked if ours was that big as well. They also didn't realize the trachea was so visible with the rings of cartilage on it, just like ours."

Thank you Mrs. Salgado for your passion for giving students an in-depth look into physiology and anatomy!

The US Department of Agriculture, under the Animal Welfare Act, governs the procurement of animals. Animals used in PVPUSD classrooms have undergone USDA inspection and are disseminated for educational use.
