A Note from the Pastor

Though I know it's a smelly, invasive tree, I can't help but smile when I pass a row of blooming Bradford Pear trees this time of year! It's one of the first promises that spring is right around the corner. With that typically also comes the close of Lent and the celebration of Easter.

Our annual community Easter Egg Hunt is next Saturday, March 23 at 11:00 a.m. This is a wonderful way for us to be good neighbors to our community and extend a welcoming entry point for those that may be curious about what we do here at 246 Main Street. I hope you'll share the invite with families in your circle. I appreciate all the good work Donna is doing in coordinating that event for our church family and community.

During Holy Week, we will gather on Thursday, March 28 for a meal and communion together in the Fellowship Hall. This family-friendly gathering will begin at 6:00 pm and finish in about an hour. The meal is free, though donations are always welcomed. If you'd like to help us set-up and decorate, a group will be meeting at 1pm that afternoon and I'd love to have you join us.

As I have mentioned the last couple of Sundays, we are working behind the scenes to launch an updated website and with that comes the need for updated photos! A photographer will be on site Sunday taking pictures of classes, conversations in the hall, and worship. I do hope you'll be here!

And lastly, I hope you'll forgive me for being a bit self-serving. We are set to close on our house Monday morning and could use some help moving our belongings. Currently, most of our life is in two storage units in Forest City. If you have a couple of hours to spare, and could help us, we plan to begin moving our belongings on Friday, March 22 at 4pm and then finish up on Saturday (for those of you not attending the Easter Egg Hunt that morning). We hope to rent a truck for furniture but if you have a van/truck that could help with boxes or smaller items, it would be especially helpful! If you could help in anyway that weekend, would you reach out to me or Jason for more details? You can reach me at aimeefbcr@gmail.com or 704-534-3267 and Jason at jason2911@yahoo.com or 214-793-0831.

As we journey to the cross together, I pray that you continue to find ways to experience a life that is full to the brim.

Blessings,

Aimee

LETTER OF GRATITUDE

We recently received a letter of gratitude from Jason Patzke. Jason Patzke is an inmate at the Ashland Federal Correctional Institution in Ashland, Kentucky, who we have been ministering to since December 2022. Jason is a friend of Jason Miles and is studying for the ministry within the walls of the institution. Aside from his friends within the prison, we are the only source of support he has.

Recently, after hearing that his boots were falling apart, several of our church members collected donations to surprise him with a new pair. He then sent us a letter of gratitude and thankfulness, which you can read below.

Jason considers our church his church. Please continue to pray for Jason Miles, Jason Patzke, and the other inmates. God is using both Jason's to move within the walls of the prison.

CHECK OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING:

  • If you would like to place an Easter lily in memory or in honor of someone, please fill out the form located in the vestibules and return it to the church office along with a payment of $18.00/plant by Sunday, March 24. The lilies will be displayed on Easter Sunday with a list of names published in the order of worship.

  • We now have a notary on staff! Tina Bean, our church administrator, just completed notary training and is available to notarize forms you may have. Simply reach out to her by email or by calling the church office to schedule a time to stop by.

  • We have a new prayer distribution list! If you'd like to receive prayer request updates throughout the week, in addition to the prayer list found in the weekly newsletter, request to be added to our new prayer distribution email list! Just click here and add your name and preferred email address. You can also join by calling or emailing the church office.

  • Midwives of a Movement, a documentary film chronicling the stories of the women who boldly birthed a movement to seek greater visibility and opportunities for women in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) 40 years ago, is being shown at First Baptist Church of Asheville on Sunday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. If you'd like to attend the screening and carpool, reach out to Aimee.

  • Fellowship of Christian Women will have a luncheon meeting on March 18 at 11:30 am at First Wesleyan Church. After lunch, our members will help pack up needed items they purchased for Hands of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center and deliver them.

  • There are many opportunities for service at FBCR, and our Ministry Teams welcome your involvement! You are encouraged to join a Team(s) that fits your interests and gifts. Where is God leading you to serve? Whether you are interested in hospitality, landscaping, community outreach, working with children or youth, supporting the incarcerated, or visiting those who can no longer attend (to name a few of the opportunities!), there is a Team that would benefit from your strengths. Click Here for the updated descriptions of our 2024 Ministry Teams, and prayerfully consider where you might become involved.

  • More volunteers are needed to assist in the preschool room on Sundays during worship. Volunteers are background checked and trained. You are generally scheduled to volunteer one time every 8 weeks. No experience needed, just a kind heart for children. Contact Donna if you would like more information.

  • ILLUMINATE, our youth group gathering, meet every Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in the youth basement. Each week they share a meal (provided by families from our church), an ice breaker or game, and then enter into a time of conversation around the original context of the passages for the week.
