Get Involved! Open 2023-24 DHMS PTSA Committee Chairs & Leads


The DHMS PTSA is recruiting volunteers to serve as Committee Chairs and other PTSA Leads for the 2023-24 school year. A great way to get involved and support our school, many roles can be done from home and/or as it fits into your schedule. You are also welcome to co-chair with a friend. New DHMS and rising 6th grade parents are welcome to volunteer as well. Please help us to spread the word!

DHMS 8th Grade Promotion Updates

 

Thank you to those who joined our 8th Grade Promotion Activities Q&A session last week. We apologize to those of you who experienced technical difficulties accessing the Zoom. We created a Q&A document summarizing the questions asked during our session. Here is the overview we reviewed at the start of the session.


If you haven’t done so already, please pay your student’s $25 promotion fee here. This fee covers the expenses for the PTSA organized Promotion Party on Friday, June 9 (Neon Tropical Island themed with food, DJ, dancing, and games) as well as a student year-end gift and the 8th graders class gift to DHMS. If your family is able to make an extra donation, please do so here: Promotion Extra DonationIf you need financial aid, scholarship or payment plan, contact Ms. Schaefer or Christine Katcher.


The trip to King’s Dominion is organized by the DHMS administration. If your student hasn’t yet submitted their permission slip and payment, please have them see Ms. Moore as soon as possible!

Thank you to DHMS 7th grade families for hosting the 8th Grade Promotion Reception after the ceremony on Wednesday, June 14th.


  • Food & Drink Donations: Please help us make this an extra special event for our graduating 8th graders and their families by donating snacks and water for the reception. 6th and 7th grade families are welcome to donate. Click below to sign up!

Parent Volunteers Needed: 2nd Annual Phoenix Games for 6th and 7th Graders


The 2nd annual Phoenix Games for 6th and 7th Graders is coming up on Tuesday, June 13th! Join us for a fun way to celebrate a great end of the school year. Sign up to volunteer from 8:15-9:45am (6th Graders) or 10:00-11:30am (7th Graders)... or both!


Game volunteers will be responsible for running the event as students arrive at your station. You will be provided with all the supplies supplies needed, additional details will be provided prior to June 13th. Contact Adrianne Bosco with any questions. Thank you!

The DHMS PTSA Nominating Committee presented the slate of proposed DHMS PTSA Officers for 2023-24 at the May 9th DHMS PTSA Meeting. Thank you to the nominees for volunteering to serve as PTSA leads next year:

Any DHMS PTSA member may self-nominate themselves to be added to the slate of proposed DHMS PTSA Officers for 2023-24. To submit your intent to run from the floor, send an email to president@dhmsptsa.com by Tuesday, June 13th and include your name, email address, and position you are running for.

DHMS Author Visit:

Margaret Peterson Haddix


It’s our final author visit for the year with Margaret Peterson Haddix, author of many sci-fi books for young readers, including The Shadow Children series, The Missing series, and many others. She will visit DHMS on Wednesday, May 31 from 10-10:45 am. Pre-order copies of her latest book, Falling Out of Time, from local bookstore, Politics and Prose. Books will be delivered to school on the day of the event. The deadline for orders is Thursday, May 25th.

7th Grade Only! Next Year's Broadcast TA


Attention parents of 7th graders: do you have a student who is interested in being in next year's Broadcast TA? DHMS has a specialty 8th grade TA that is responsible for broadcasting the school announcements and producing a weekly news show. We need to build an enthusiastic broadcast team, including writers, producers, anchors, and video editors. If students are interested in becoming a part of this broadcast team, please have them fill out the application, which is available on the Student Information Canvas course. Remind them not to leave it to the last minute as students have to submit a video showcasing their talents. The DEADLINE is Monday, May 22, 2023 at 9 pm. This is a hard deadline and no exceptions can be made. Students will be contacted for an interview after applications are submitted. Students will be notified before the end of the school year if they have been accepted into the TA. Contact Ms. Shanker for more information.

Community Updates

Yorktown HS Field Hockey - Rising 8th and 9th Graders


If your child is interested in playing Field Hockey this fall at Yorktown, please visit our Field Hockey information page on YHSBoosters.org. Even if your child has not decided, this is a great way to understand exactly what to expect from the program in the event they do choose to play from practice requirements to type of equipment used to coaching style. We have a great set of coaches and most of them actually teach in Arlington and with back to back trips to the State Championships (with a win in 2021), we’re a pretty successful team as well.


Freshman practices/tryouts begin around August 1. Practices are mandatory and you should expect practices to run Monday - Friday and Saturday mornings during August. All players must have a VHSL physical dated after May 1, 2023 on file with the Athletic Department in order to play. A copy of the physical can be found here. Additionally, players will need an outdoor Field Hockey stick and shin guards. The latest information is posted on Stack Team App so if you have not already done so, please download Stack Team App and access YHS – Field Hockey. Once you are at the YHS – Field Hockey page, click on the gear icon in the top right corner and request access to Pre-Season 2023 - All parents welcome.
