“WELCOME!"
We are so glad you are here!”

As we enter our church, as we live as members, as we experience important life-cycle events (falling in love, marrying, parenting, baptism, coming out, transitioning, etc.), words of welcome and support, understanding and love are what we all long for. This manifestation of God’s Extravagant Welcome and the justice and social witness that accompany it are the heart of what we hope to show our community and all who walk through the doors of Christ Congregational United Church of Christ.

PEACE BE WITH YOU!
June 23, 2023

Dear Congregation,

Happy Birthday, UCC! This Sunday will be the 66th Anniversary of the vote to combine four smaller denominations into The United Church of Christ. It occurred at General Synod held in Cleveland, Ohio. I can still remember being in worship at my home church, First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Sandusky, OH, when the pastor announced this historic occasion. We members stood talking outside the church afterward wondering exactly what this would mean for our local church.
Time has brought many changes. The UCC has grown into a very progressive denomination and has been on the cutting edge of change by joining faith with action.

Next week General Synod 34 will convene in Indianapolis, IN, from June 30-July 4th.  The theme is from Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Keynote speaker is The Rev. Nadia Bolz-Weber. Some of us had the privilege of attending her presentation at Coral Gables Congregational UCC in November 2022.

I invite you to go to the General Synod 34 web page on <ucc.org> for information on the Resolutions that have been presented for a vote, many of which resonate with our church. There will be an opportunity to view all activities except plenary group discussions on-line. Worship is always wonderful at General Synod, so I encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity. I hope to see you in worship this Sunday at CCC, in person or on Facebook.

God Bless you!

Pastor Candy

Global Ministries offers a weekly prayer for one of our global mission partners. This week's prayer is with the Argentina. To read their mission moment, please click the Global Ministries IMAGE. Below is this week's prayer, united we pray.
We ask for your presence, Jesus Christ, in Argentina to enlighten the entire population to learn to distinguish and separate any discourse and practice that destroys creation and the dignity of people. We ask you, Holy Spirit, to enable and strengthen us to categorically break with any form of hatred, violence, or discrimination dressed in speeches of love, peace, happiness, success, and unity. For this reason, we ask you, dear God, for all the women victims of violence; for all childhoods exposed to mistreatment, hunger, and hatred; for all the people and families looking for a home in the face of the housing crisis; for each and every migrant who leaves their country in search of a better future. For the indigenous peoples who fight to vindicate their rights. For the entire population that suffers the depression of economic inflation. And we also ask you for the provincial and national democratic elections. And we implore you, dear God, Father, and Mother, to encourage us to take up the cross and follow your path daily so that together and in communion, we work to transform people’s lives.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
