DATA SECURITY
Throughout this year, we have shared with you a variety of topics around data security. The article "Top 10 states for data breaches warn of constant K12 cyber threat" highlights data breaches that have happened around the country over the last 20 years. Ohio ranks sixth in the number of K-12 data breaches that have occurred (89), with over 1.9 million records affected.
How can you help?
There are three easy ways you can help to make sure we do everything that we can to keep our data secure:
  • Update your password and add complexity (consider using a passphrase)
  • Make sure to never leave your device logged on and unattended
  • Never share your password
Classkick
A program that many teachers have found an excellent use for over the last couple of years is Claskick. As we approach the end of this year, we wanted to make sure students had the opportunity to download any content they would like from Classkick for future years. Students' content will be removed at the end of the school year. Teachers will still have access to all of their Assignments. Please share this doc explaining How to Export Classkick Assignments with your students if they could benefit from having the content.
GIF of the Month - Updating your Password on your MacBook
Each month our IT Techs will share a GIF to remind you of an essential item related to Technology in Mentor. This month's GIF shows how to change your password using your MacBook. Adding complexity to your password (consider even making it a passphrase) will help to keep your accounts and district data secure!

A Little IT Humor!
Doug always manages to keep things light around our IT office, so each month, he will share something funny relating to the articles in IT News and Notes. This image was fitting as we continue to talk about data security. We hope that all staff will approach suspicious emails/information with skepticism so that you are not in the same boat as the most interesting man in the world.
