Reintroducing the Nevins Library
Living through this pandemic has changed many things in all of our lives, including the everyday life at the library. Some things have gone back to the pre-pandemic "normal", like our hours, which is fantastic. However, some changes are here to stay, and we couldn't be happier about that. We hope that you find these changes help enhance your enjoyment of the library. We have covered these changes as they happened, but here's a refresher:

The Nevins Library is now fine free! That's right, no more late fees. AND any late fees you had on your card have been removed. You will still have to pay for any lost or damaged books though.

The Nevins Library now does Automatic Renewals! This means that 3 days before your item is due to be returned, our computer system will automatically attempt to renew all of your items for you, with no action needed on your part. Items that have already been renewed twice or that others are waiting to borrow will not be renewed. You will receive an email notifying you of each successful or unsuccessful renewal as well.

We now offer Hoopla! The ability to download and enjoy items has never been more in-demand than now, so we have added a new service to increase your choices downloading choices. Hoopla works side by side with the already existing Libby app, but allows for streaming movies and TV shows in addition to ebooks and audiobooks. Also, there are no wait lists on Hoopla! You just need to download the app to your device and log in with your library card and email, and you're all set to read, view, or listen.

We still have curbside service! If you are unable or not feeling comfortable about coming into the library to pick up your requested items, please know that you can always call the Main Desk at 978-686-4080 (press 2) and set up a curbside appointment. When you arrive in the parking lot for your items, we will happily bring them out to you.

You may have to renew your Library card soon! Our library cards have always expired every three years, but during the height of the pandemic we told the computer system to "ignore" your expiration dates so you could continue to enjoy your library card benefits during this time. Now that the Library is open full hours, the computer is checking those expiration dates again, so if you are having any problems, or are getting a notification that your card has expired, please just stop in with your photo ID and current proof of your Methuen address, and we can renew your card in just a matter of minutes.

There is also a bit of a change on the front page of our website. If you're looking for the amazing Children's PDF calendar or the Teens Groups & Club page they've now moved from Toddlers to Teens to a Childrens menu and Teens menu. If you have a page bookmarked, there may be errors, but, if you go to the home page the links will all be live. And, keep an eye out for some new things in those menus in the coming months!!

Finally, as always, if you have any questions or need any help with anything - don't hesitate to contact us!
Do you know someone who hasn't been back to the Library in a while.
Forward this Newsletter to them!
Everyone is Welcome! (And Welcome Back!!)

What's Happening in Children's?
A Spoooooky October in the Children's Department
The school year is off to a good start, and so are our fall programs – it’s great to get into the rhythm of school-year programming. This means we’ve rebooted some familiar after-school programs, such as book groups for different ages, and we’ve also added a couple of fun crafting clubs. And now that we’re open on Saturdays, we’ll have storytimes and movie showings on the weekends!

October is all about Halloween for lots of people, so we’ll have special preschool storytimes that include trick-or-treating in the library, along with Halloween-themed “Books & Bubbles” and “Story & Craft” programs -- and for older children there’s a Candy Bar Bingo game!

Last but not least, our teen librarian is hosting an exciting cross-over program for ages 11-18, which your pre-teens might be interested in: a six-week Stop Motion Animation Workshop! Space is limited, so you’ll want to register soon.

Of course, besides all of the above, we have our usual roster of preschool programs and evening storytimes -- keep an eye on the Children’s Department calendar and Facebook page to be up to date on all the happenings!

Happy October, and Happy Reading!
