Our LSSN Headquarters, aka the Boulder Area Collaborative, is abuzz with construction professionals including a project manager, architect, and contractors. Last year we received a Clark County Community Development Block Grant of $1.8 million for a much-needed expansion and an opportunity for transformational service delivery to a population that has been overlooked. The JOURNEY Senior Services Center will reduce food insecurity. One senior named Janice is on a fixed income. She told us that she never dreamed that she would be in the situation that she is in today; trying to decide between getting medical treatment and paying other monthly bills. Another senior named Bill is in his 90s. With the support of LSSN he has been able to increase or at least maintain his independence with programs like Bingocize, a combination of yoga and bingo. The JOURNEY will provide more opportunities for seniors themselves to express the love of Christ by caring and serving people in need by joining teams that lead new programs and ministries. Our seniors often have expertise that can be invaluable in this process. The JOURNEY will be home to services such as nutrition education, congregate meals, grief share, mobility classes, employment services, financial literacy, computer competence, and other programs that we haven’t even thought of!

The architect of the JOURNEY, Steve Maahs who happens to be a member of Christ the Servant Lutheran, had this to say about the project:

It’s been a decade since my know retired Pastor David Drach-Meinel volunteered our services to LSSN. It’s been a pleasure working with the entire organization through the years in helping design their facility for the growing services they provide the community. Master planning and design is a process that takes many years before the fruits of those labors can be seen by the public. Through this process I have always been amazed that the right person at the right time has always stepped forward to help LSSN move forward.

I truly believe this is due to LSSN’s mission and dedication over the years to helping those in need in our community. The steady hand of leadership, great staff, all those that have volunteered their time and generous donors have made it happen. It has truly been my pleasure to be apart of this great organization as it has grown and expanded into a premier provider for the Las Vegas Valley.
