Summer is winding down but things are just getting started for Snowlion Rep! Coming up, an acting class for all levels that gets at the HEART of every compelling performance, as well as an old favorite back for a co-production. But first, from our two well-attended and highly successful summer offerings...

The Christmas Bride in Concert

Pictures, Articles, Reviews!

Snowlion Rep received great press for its three-venue performances of The Christmas Bride in Concert, directed by Al D'Andrea. Here's a sampling:

Review: Snowlion Repertory Company is 'Some Pumpkins!'

Boothbay Register

"Ahlin said the concert featured some of the best voices in Maine and, judging by the audience's strong applause and vocal notes of appreciation, she was right."

Theater company hopes to find a home and fill a hole in Boothbay Harbor

Portland Press-Herald

"The company is not just saying 'hello' to a new town. They're also saying, 'Merry Christmas.' The upcoming concert which will also be staged in Portland and Freeport will showcase songs from the musical 'The Christmas Bride.'"

Freeport's Meetinghouse Arts Hosts Christmas in July Performance of "The Christmas Bride in Concert"

Freeport/Brunswick Times Record

"We are bringing this Christmas story to audiences in July to hopefully inspire that [Christmas] attitude all year long. The story is charming; it's all about allowing yourself

to love and be loved."

And from the performance at the Boothbay Opera House:

Marion (Emily Bartley) has conflicting feelings as a moment of monumental importance draws near.

Clemency (Kelly Caufield) almost receives the proposal she craves from Britain (Chris Newcomb).

Alfred (Joel Crowley) must search for his wayward bride, all the while unaware of the deep feelings that Grace (Mary Johnston Letellier) has for him.

Malkey (David Arthur Bachrach) and Simon Craggs (Pat Scully) are in hot pursuit of Michael Warden for the purposes of revenge.

Michael Warden (Aaron Engebreth) is at last reunited with his true love Marion (Emily Bartley).

The Jeddler family (Emily Bartley, Alan McLucas, Mary Johnston Letellier) comes together in forgiveness - and a double wedding - at Little Christmas.

The Right Thing to Do

Pictures from the Workshop Performance

The workshop performance of Pat Mew's new play The Right Thing to Do at the Mad Horse Theater theater space featured outstanding performances by its dedicated cast of pros under the direction of Al D'Andrea. Here's a few pictures from that event:

The book that started it all for Paula (Kim Gordon) - "The Scarlet Professor."

At the heart of the scandal, a relatively tame men's magazine shared between colleagues Spofford and Dorius (Tristan Rolfe, Josh Brassard).

Betrayal by Newton (Nick Soloway) and persecution by Regan (Joe Quinn).

Dorius (Josh Brassard) learns in the company of his friends (Chalmers Hardenburgh, Randall Tuttle) and over the radio (Tom Handel) that he is being sought on pornography charges.

The trial of Joel Dorius (cast: Chalmers Hardenburgh, Kim Gordon, Joe Quinn, Richard Sewell, Tom Handel, Randall Tuttle, Nick Soloway, Tristan Rolfe, Josh Brassard)

In the end, an apology comes from an unlikely source (Kim Gordan, Josh Brassard).

An Acting Class to Sharpen Your Skills!

Snowlion Rep's comprehensive acting curriculum - FIVE different aspects of the actor's training that present in rotation - is commencing once more, starting with ACTION AND OBJECTIVE: The Heart of Acting Technique,

an in-depth look at two of the most important elements of the

actors work in creating a role to play.

Teacher Al D’Andrea and his students will use a variety of games, exercises, improvisations, and scene work to explore "what the character wants" (objective) and "what the character does to get what s/he wants" (action). Many influences on Action and Objective will be explored, including given circumstances, location, character, emotion, and justification. Much of the work will be based on Al's studies with stage legend Stella Adler.

The workshop is ideal for experienced actors who seek to master their understanding and use of these central elements of stagecraft. Beginning actors will receive a strong foundation in these critical elements of performance, often not emphasized in traditional acting classes. The class is open to all ages 16 and above.
