IT World Canada and Tech News Day present
Analytics Unleashed Workshop on Practical A.I.
No one disputes that AI will have a monumental impact on our businesses. WIth the rapid speed of development and the amazing amount of news on this subject, it’s impossible for anyone to keep up.
In this 2 hour interactive workshop we will cover:
1. The foundations of AI – what you really need to know. We won’t try to make you into an AI expert, but there are key principles and ideas that will help guide you.
2. Myths, Facts and Questions – Some of what you have heard about AI is either not true or not exactly true. For example – you are unlikely to make 300k US as a prompt engineer. We’ll dispel some of the myths and bring out some of the facts. We’ll also answer questions you might have.
3. Use Cases and Case Studies
The bulk of the workshop will be demonstrations of what is possible and how to do it. We’ll look at use cases and the practical benefits that can be achieved by using AI right now, in real time. We’ll do this is a realistic, practical manner showing you what we’ve done, how we would attack a new problem and what pitfalls to watch out for.
4. Q&A and “Can you explain that again?”
We’ll have an informal Q&A after the main session and if you missed a point, or didn’t get something, we’ll make sure you get it. This is “no pressure” learning and sharing.
What level of AI knowledge do you need to get the value from this? We will cover the material in a way that should be fine for people who know little at all about AI and since we’ll take more of a business than a purely technical approach, we should have something for even the experienced AI user.

You Can Now Recycle Land Survey Equipment With ERA
|
|
Featured Article from the ERA (Electronic Recycling Association), a CIPS Corporate Partner
Land survey equipment plays a vital role in various industries, from construction to mining, environmental conservation, and many others. However, as with any electronic equipment, these devices eventually reach their end-of-life and become e-waste. E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams globally due to the rapid pace of technological advancements and obsolescence.
E-waste from land survey equipment includes items like GPS systems, total stations, laser scanners, and more. These devices contain hazardous materials like lead, cadmium, mercury, and chromium, which can harm the environment and human health if not disposed of properly.

RAI Institute convenes experts from Canada and UK to compare AI governance efforts
|
|
The Responsible AI Institute convened a roundtable of policy leaders, regulators, standards developers, industry experts, and researchers from the UK and Canada to compare governance efforts. The roundtable was hosted by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority with support from UK's Science and Innovation Network in Canada.
Key insights that emerged:
• A focus on AI systems at the use case level can inform the development of interoperable frameworks and common standards
• Industry standards play a pivotal role shaping principles and practices, complementing laws and sectoral rules. Voluntary and mandatory standards both have roles to play
• Ensuring measurable standards that align with sector requirements and encompass broader economic impacts is essential
• Aligning regulatory capabilities, tools and understanding risks/benefits is urgent as AI transcends borders
• Multi stakeholder dialogue and public-private partnership point the way forward on AI governance
This roundtable exemplifies how collaborative international partnerships and sharing of best practices can steer AI's immense potential in a responsible direction.
