The MAT is Here to Stay!

As the Montana Rural Teacher Project (MRTP) comes to a close we want to reflect on the successes of the program as well as the future of the MAT degree. The MRTP funded 47 graduates from its three cohorts. As of today, 42 are teaching in Montana schools.

The MRTP is in its final six months but MSU's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program will continue. In May 2019, the MAT enrolled its first cohort of secondary teaching majors and the program enrolled its first elementary cohort in January 2020. To date, the MAT has graduated 68 students with 29 currently enrolled.

And we're just getting started!

Designed as an intensive one-year graduate program, the MAT continues to evolve to meet the needs of Montana.

  • Supports students on Class V licenses who are serving as teachers of record in your school
  • Endorses secondary teaching majors in English, Social Studies, Science, Math, FCS, and Modern Languages
  • Provides financial support including the Refer-a-Bobcat program.

Refer-a-Bobcat!

You can give the gift of a 3 credit tuition waiver!

The MSU Graduate School offers the Refer-a-Bobcat program for licensed educators. This program provides a

3 credit tuition waiver for students referred and admitted to an eligible certificate or master's degree program. For the typical 30 credit master's degree, this is a 10% discount on tuition!

MAT is accepting applications now.

Candidates can begin as soon as Summer 2024.
