Sheriff's Department Contract Obligations Meeting

LASD Served with Public Records Act Request
April 18: PPOA received notification early this week that the Sheriff’s Department was served with a California Public Records Act Request (PRA) from a media outlet. The media requested photos and names of all sworn peace officers, with the exception of those in undercover assignments. PPOA immediately reached out to the Department to ensure that its members’ constitutional rights to privacy were fully protected under the law. We have been in communication with the Department, and our legal counsel, to prevent a LAPD-type of release of legally-protected pictures and information of peace officers. To that end, we met with Department executives and Subject Matter Experts, in person, on Thursday (more on that meeting below) and will be exercising all options to provide the necessary legal protections to our members.
