City of Spokane Celebrates 25 Years of Neighborhood Services

Lilac City Live!

2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the Office of Neighborhood Services being recognized in the Spokane City Charter! As a part of our 25th anniversary celebration, join us at Lilac City Live! on Thursday, April 17, 7 p.m. at Central Library. The event will feature live music, comedy, and launch "Spokane: A Civic Guide for Neighbors," a zine, short for magazine.

Celebrate Earth Day Throughout April

The City of Spokane is celebrating Earth Day throughout the whole month of April. Several City departments are organizing and participating in activities to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage action to protect the planet. The City has put together a convenient list of opportunities and resources for the community to get involved through Spokane Public Library, City Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Planning Services, and Office of Neighborhood Services.

Earth Day River Clean Up

Join the Spokane Riverkeeper for a family-friendly river cleanup! Each year for Earth Day, Spokane Riverkeeper removes about 9,000 pounds of trash from High Bridge and People’s Park. Click here to join them!

Spokane County Waste Ambassadors Orientation

Are you passionate about waste reduction and creating a sustainable future? The new Waste Ambassador program empowers community members to make a difference through improved practices, ongoing education, innovation, and volunteerism. Register for a one-time orientation and begin your journey to improving the health and well-being of people and the planet.

Celebrate Earth Day by Planning Ahead

You are invited to the City of Spokane Earth Day Community Workshop to learn more about ongoing Climate Planning efforts and provide input on future actions to shape a sustainable future. Attendees who visit all workshop stations will be entered into a raffle for exciting prizes. This family-friendly event will feature activities for kids and food from Feast World Kitchen.

Park Restroom Improvements Proposed for 2025 Levy

Restrooms are a topic Spokane Parks and Recreation hears about frequently from park users.‘Improvements to park restrooms’ were one of the top two requests from their 2022 Master Plan outreach, with 7/10 respondents requesting upgrades.


If approved by voters in a proposed November 2025 ballot item, the Parks Levy (part of Together Spokane) would:

  • Renovate or replace every park restroom
  • Increase our Park Maintenance team by about 50%


Together Spokane is an innovative partnership between Spokane Public Schools and Spokane Parks and Recreation to modernize existing infrastructure and address the growing need for youth activities. Learn more at togetherspokane.org!

The Spokane Police Department is proud to unveil the new Dialogue Policing Team.

Bites & Books Food Drive

Now through the end of April, Spokane Public Library, Spokane County Library District, Liberty Lake Municipal Library, KHQ NonStop Local, and USL Spokane are accepting canned and packaged nonperishable food items for the Bites & Books Food Drive benefitting Second Harvest.

Patience Pays Off: Timing Your Lawn Irrigation This Spring

You know what they say about April showers - they bring May flowers! Mother Nature is great at getting the earth what it needs to start that early spring growth. We know it's tempting, however, please hold off on watering those lawns just yet. After Mother's Day, it will officially be time to turn on your irrigation system for the season. Help Shape the Look of the I-90 Connection In Spokane

WSDOT invites community members to help shape the visual identity and architectural character of the North Spokane Corridor’s final connection to Interstate 90. The interactive workshop will focus on reviewing and providing feedback on the artistic and architectural imagery developed for the I-90 corridor.

City of Spokane's Neighborhood Clean-up Program

City of Spokane residents can request a disposal pass by visiting the Spokane 311 customer service counter or applying online. This pass covers $30 in tipping fees at the Waste to Energy Facility.

City crews are out responding to pothole reports made through Spokane 311. Our goal is to get to each reported location within two days and we meet that deadline most of the time! We appreciate your reports and need you to still let us know when you see one. Please continue reporting potholes online at spokane311.org or by calling 3-1-1.

Horizon 2050: Spokane Region Long-Range Transportation Plan

Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC) will be hosting a series of public workshops for the region's long-range transportation plan: Horizon 2050. Talk with SRTC planners and other agency staff, share your thoughts, and participate in educational transportation activities. Additionally, SRTC has launched a short survey. If you use a wood-burning stove or insert that is at least 20 years old, now is a great time to upgrade! Instant discounts of $1,000 - $2,500 are available to pre-qualified Spokane-area homeowners to help upgrade to a new wood, pellet, or gas stove or a ductless heat pump. City of Spokane Employees Volunteer for Spokane Gives Month

Happy Spokane Gives month! All month long, City of Spokane employees will be volunteering their time to neighborhood clean ups, park beautification and street mural prep. These volunteers from the Mayor's Office, Office of Neighborhood Services, and Legal Department spent part of their Friday cleaning up at Cowley Park. Thank you, volunteers!

Spring Dreams: Asian American Heritage Month

This May, Asians for Collective Liberation in Spokane (ACL) invites the community to celebrate Asian American Heritage Month through a powerful series of events under the theme “Echoes: Letters for New Tomorrows.”


The celebration begins with an Opening Reception at the MAC, featuring Our Stories: Asian

American Families of Spokane, the online launch of the Spokane Asian American History Collection, live performances, and interactive activities for all ages. From there, the month unfolds with a vibrant lineup of events.
