Things I'm Sure You'll Want To Know

Dear Karen,

Lots of exciting information to share, so let's get started...

Spring Community Clean-up

I am pleased to announce the dates for household waste (Saturday, April 29th) and yard waste (Saturday, May 6th).  While we always try to provide as much advance notice as possible, please understand that this community service requires close coordination among the Town of Brookhaven’s Waste Management Division, its Highway Department, and Brownie, our carting service provider.

Be sure to click on the above embedded links for important information including guidelines for what is accepted, location of the dumpsters, and potential rain dates.  Last year, we arranged for the Highway Department to bring equipment and personnel to chip yard waste. This enabled us to accept a significantly larger volume, and I am pleased that Karen McCutcheon, our Community Manager, has arranged for the same again this year.

Spring FIPPOA Community Meeting

Hold the date for Saturday, May 20th, 10AM at Whyte Hall. We will begin with the traditional introduction of new homeowners, followed by my annual “State of the Pines Real Estate Market,” and other community topics. We will conclude with an open microphone to ask questions and express concerns and delights.

All are welcome to attend: property owners, renters, visitors, commercial business operators and their employees. Anyone with an interest in the Pines community. All welcome means All are welcome!

Transportation Schedule Changes

The Sayville Ferry Service Late Spring schedule starts tomorrow.

Placing Household and Yard Refuse on Fire Island Boulevard is Illegal!

In last year’s newsletter, I shared the following along with several pictures of prohibited illegal dumping on the Boulevard:

“I realize this is a strong wording, but it is a perennial problem and I implore your cooperation and compliance. Please do not place any waste or bulk items, including yard waste, debris, mattresses, and discarded furniture, anywhere on the Boulevard or Burma Road.

It is easy enough to rid yourself of yard waste and bulk items in the proper fashion. Bulk household and yard debris items are picked up by our waste management contactor on Wednesdays, and we suggest you provide them advance notice by emailing Carting@BrownieNY.com.”

It disheartens me to no end to now share additional, nearly identical pictures from this year. This can so easily be avoided by following the simple, proper procedures with our carting service provider. The pictures say it all, and I will not go on any further other than to ask if anyone has any information that could lead us to the person(s) who did this, please contact me directly. Same should you ever witness similar activity in the future.

Membership Drive

The membership drive is still underway! For those who have renewed your membership, we thank you. For those who still need to renew or join, please click here.

If you joined before March 1, you should have received your wagon sticker to the address we have on file. If you joined after March 1st, there are a few ways to pick up your wagon sticker.

  • at the FIPPOA Office Fridays and Saturdays from 10AM -3PM beginning April 28th
  • in the Pines Marina from 10AM - 2PM Saturday, May 6th
  • at Spring Membership Meeting on Saturday, May 20th beginning at 10 AM at Whyte Hall

We will begin removing wagons without valid stickers and abandoned locks beginning June 21. Stickers are a benefit of membership for both regular (property owners) and associate (anyone who wishes to join) members.

Pines Party 2023

Our 24th annual Pines Party weekend of events will take place July 21-23. Stay Tooned (spelling intentional) to your inbox this Saturday morning, April 20th for an announcement of our 2023 theme, DJ lineup and ticket sales.

We encourage you to buy your tickets early, as pricing for the first time this year will be tiered. With tiered pricing, a certain number of tickets are allocated to each of three pricing tiers. Once a lower tier sells out, prices will increase to the next tier pricing level. All events are expected to sell out, so please act early both to take advantage of the lowest pricing and to be certain to secure your tickets for the weekend.

Post Office

Opening is scheduled for Saturday, May 6th. Please do not ship anything through the Sayville Post Office before that date. They do not have storage space to hold packages and may return them to sender if received before they can load them on Sayville Ferry for delivery to our post office volunteers.

Boardwalk Line Painting

Until well over a decade ago, the community would come together block-by-block, neighborhood-by-neighborhood to paint the white nighttime reflective lines on the far sides of the walkways. That responsibility was then turned over to the Town of Brookhaven’s Highway Department. FIPPOA works with them every other year to ensure that the lines will be refreshed and replaced. Line painting will begin next week and will over time be completed across all boardwalks in the community within a few weeks.

Beach/Dune Repairs

After Christmas storm "Elliott", I sent information, and subsequently one update, to the community regarding our efforts to get the Army Corp of Engineers to include the Pines (and other East end communities) in the emergency repairs currently scheduled this fall for the West end communities that incurred substantial damage several years ago. While I do not have a further update to share today, I do have a meeting with Suffolk County next week. As I receive any new pertinent information, I will continue to provide updates.

Looking forward to seeing you at the community clean-ups, at the May 20th meeting, and anywhere anytime on our soon to be freshly line-painted boardwalks!
