Dear Parents,
Our school was buzzing with so much excitement this week....
Kenrell Williams visited our Rainbow, Orange, VPK and K/1 classes. Kentrell is an author who wrote several books about his deaf sister Shelly and all her adventures using sign language in her everyday life. As he read to the children he taught them many signs. More importantly, he taught them that just because someone is deaf, they are the same inside as all of us. At the end of his visit each child received one of his books for which an $8 charge will appear on the accounts of all who participated. He has come for many years and each year the children who see him receive a different title.
This week in the Science Lab out VPK kids learned about matter with the Ivory soap experiment. They watched in amazement as the bar of soap went through a physical change. After being microwaved for one minute the bar turned to a big fluff ball. Each child received a piece of the fluff and broke it up into soap powder. They learned that even though the physical property changed, it was still soap.
Please remember unless you have a special arrangement, if your child is not enrolled for fall 2023, their last day of school will be on Thursday June 1st. All families attending our summer program are entitled to a 2 week vacation for which they will not be billed if their child does not attend. In order to sign up for your vacation week, we must be notified no later than May 1st. Please look at your calendar and plan you 2 week summer vacation so that you can give us your dates off by May 1. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board next week. Those who have already alerted us to their dates, you will see them in RED. For all others, when you know your vacation weeks, please use the highlighter to highlight your vacation weeks so we can ensure you will not be billed.
Finally, please note the dates below for Muffins with Mom, our annual Mother's Day celebration. Due to limited space, each child may only have one guest on that morning. Please join your child for 10-15 minutes to take a photo with your child, enjoy a little snack and receive your Mother's Day gifts.
