This has been one of the mildest winters on record , I guess we deserve a break after last winter!!  We've still got lots of things going on here at the library this month. The big Spring Booksale happens in March with tons (literally tons) of great books and media for sale for great prices.   The Children's department is kicking off a new storytelling series that is sure to be a hit.  Professional storyteller Nicolette Nordin Heavy will be spending time with us and sharing her stories.  Also this month, Anna our tech librarian will be starting her monthly series of tech advice programs.  The Literacy program is gearing up for new training workshops next month so take a look at these dates, you  don't want to miss them. 
Spring Booksale is Here!

Make sure to mark your calendars for the Friends of the Nevins Library Spring Book Sale so you can fill up your shelves with books for your spring & summer reading! Thousands of books at bargain prices will be available. Fiction, non-fiction, how-to books, and children's books in excellent condition are all well-organized for a great bargain shopping experience.

Here are the Particulars: 

Friday March 18 - Preview Night, $20. Be the first to purchase books etc.
Saturday March 19 - Open 9am-5pm
Sunday March 20 - Open Noon -4pm
Monday March 21 - Bargain Day - 9am-8pm - Fill a Brown Bag for $8

If anyone wishes to volunteer prior to the Book Sale, or help out the weekend of the event, please contact Carla Friedrich at 978-686-4080 ext. 33 or email cfriedrich@mvlc.org.

Don't miss out! Proceeds from this sale benefit library programs and services, as well as the ever-popular museum passes the Friends of the Library fund for you!

News from the Children's Department

Keep busy in the last weeks of winter with some fun ways to read and share stories with family members and friends. We have a wide range of programs for different age groups. A complete program listing is on our website under the link for Calendar of Events. Preschool offerings include Brain Building in Progress, Babies and Books, Storytime for 2 year olds, Storytime for 3 to 5 year olds and Donuts with Dad. Programs for school-aged children include Family Storytimes for 3 to 8 year olds, The World of Chocolate, Building club days with K'NEX and LEGOS, Book Chatters and American Girl Book Clubs.
 
We also have some special programs that are taking place in March. Participate as a family in our Winter Wonderland Bingo reading game, be a contributor to our AWESOME BOX and participate in the MA Humanities grant program called Family Adventures in Reading (FAIR). Details for all of these opportunities are listed below.

Family Adventures in Reading
 
Mark Your Calendar for Family Adventures in Reading (FAIR)!
FAIR will be held on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 pm on March 5th, 12th, 19th, April 2nd, 9th and 16th, 2016. Professional storyteller Nicolette Nordin Heavey will bring books to life through discussions centered around fairness, courage and dreams, and by offering simple writing, craft and theatrical play activities. This is a FREE six week humanities-based reading and discussion program for family members (parents, grandparents or guardians) and their children in K to 4th grade. Funding for this program is provided by Mass Humanities a private, non-profit, educational organization supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and private sources. Come join the fun! Please register online for each program time.

Spring Fling with some Books
March 24, 7pm

Looking for something new or different to read this year?  Come to the Great Hall in the Library, and hear about new, and new-to-you, books. Join the Staff of the Nevins Library as we suggest some of our favorite books from a genres like Horror, Teen Fiction, Literature, Mystery, and everything else under the sun. You'll come away with new  books to read for the Summer (or for the next day, it's up to you).  You can register by calling the Reference Desk at 978 686-4080x13 or click below to register online.   We're sure to have some yummy refreshments on hand as well.

Tech Series...Free Technology Basic Training

If you want to learn how to better use your apps and devices, then the Nevins Library is your first stop! Join us for a free introductory class each month. Monday, March 21, 7:00pm : E-book Basics
Did you know that you can download free e-books through the library's website? Don't miss out on this opportunity to acquire new literature on your mobile device or e-reader! Attendees are encouraged to bring  their devices. The class will last about an hour, including the Q&A.

Wednesday, April 27, 1:00pm : Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail Basics
If your email service is confusing, then this is the class for you!  We'll cover three of the most popular web-based email services in the world: Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail. From attaching files to replying to  multiple people, this class will teach you all of the tricks! Please feel free to bring your laptop or devices.

Monday, May 23, 7:00 : Microsoft Word Basics
Learn how to change margins, fonts, and borders in this beginner's class. Feel free to bring your laptop and all of your questions.

In addition to classes, the Nevins Library hosts free basic tech help at 2:00 and 2:30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at 4:00 and 4:30 on Thursdays. Let us teach you how to operate your device!
