Expanding Access to Affordable Care in Gypsum, CO
Ross Brooks, CEO & patient

For the second time this year, Mountain Family Health Centers (MFHC) will be expanding access to affordable care in the Eagle River Valley.  In January 2023, Mountain Family opened a new Community Health Center located in Avon, Colorado. Shortly after opening the Avon clinic, Mountain Family began construction on another new Community Health Center located in Gypsum, Colorado. Construction on the new MFHC Gypsum clinic is slated to be completed by mid-summer 2023 and the clinic will open to patients in August this year.

Similar to other Mountain Family sites, the new Gypsum clinic will provide affordable medical, dental, behavioral, and pharmacy services to the community, without regard to the patient’s ability to pay for services. To make an appointment at Mountain Family, call 970-945-2840 or visit us online. Colorado has Begun Medicaid Re-Enrollment
Maira Mendoza, Outreach & Enrollment Lead

Members who were found eligible for Health First Colorado (Medicaid)/CHP+ were locked into coverage at the beginning of the Pandemic due to a requirement of continuous coverage. In May 2023, we will return to normal eligibility processes. The Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) is estimating that more than 325,000 people will lose their coverage.

MFHC has certified assisters to help facilitate this transition. Meet with our Outreach & Enrollment Department to begin your renewal process, apply for a plan on Connect for Health Colorado, or simply get your questions answered. You may contact us by emailing EnrollmentHelp@mountainfamily.org or calling (833) 273-6627.

School-Based Health Centers Continue Providing Care Throughout the Summer
Kendra Nagey, CPNP-PC, SBHC Medical Director

Mountain Family Health Centers has five School-Based Health Centers located at Avon Elementary School, Basalt Middle School, Basalt High School, Glenwood Springs High School, and Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale. Patients under age 21 can be seen at any of our SBHCs year-round.

What can you expect over the summer as a patient?

SBHCs will be fully operational all summer long. We will be maintaining previous medical and behavioral health schedules through the end of July. Anai Quezada, RDH, will be seeing dental patients Tuesday and Thursday at our GSHS SBHC.

Sports physicals for the 2023/2024 school year can be done as an appointment or a walk-in, so long as both the enrollment form and sports physical forms are filled out and signed by the student and their guardian.

Making an Impact Through Our "Health For All Fund"
Your Generosity Makes a Difference in Our Community
People who are enrolled in Medicaid will need to reapply to the State of Colorado for re-determination of their eligibility. Statewide, it is projected that 16-18% of current enrollees will lose their Medicaid coverage over the coming year as a result of the re-determination process.

Currently, 30% of our 24,000 patients are enrolled Medicaid and 44% are uninsured, but the end of the PHE will impact these percentages; we anticipate many patients will lose their Medicaid coverage and have no insurance to cover their care.
You can help us continue to provide cost effective, evidence-based, high-quality healthcare to your friends and neighbors who need our services now more than ever.

Our Health For All Fund provides critical operating support for our entire organization.

June is National Pride Month
Elizabeth Bailey, Development and Communications Manager

At Mountain Family Health Centers, our Guiding Principles help us create a welcoming and warm work environment and patient-centered culture. “Diversity” at Mountain Family looks like “evolving into a more equitable, just, and inclusive organization” for employees, patients, and our community. Everyone is welcome through our doors, and we are accepting of all backgrounds here.

Anneliese Heckert, DO, Co-Chief Medical Officer and Glenwood Springs Site Medical Director shared that for our patients “we have continued to focus on expanding our inclusive language and looking at how we can make our spaces, electronic health record, meetings, and overall culture more inclusive. We've added desired pronouns to the top of everyone's chart so that is front and center when we talk with patients.” Additionally, several providers have attended gender affirming care lectures from a variety of sources in the last few months. If you are a patient at Mountain Family, know that your providers are trained to listen, sympathize, and help support you through your entire journey.
