Methuen's First Magical History Tour
October 14 10am-2pm

On Saturday October 14th come to the Nevins Library and start your self-guided "Magical History Tour" finding some of the wonderful historical monuments and sites in the downtown area.
Using an app for your phone you can take a walk around the city and find out what things were like over 100 years ago at the sites on the tour. Don't have a phone? No problem! We'll start you off with a tried and true paper map and brochure. Follow the footsteps as they lead throughout the downtown while reading about the years gone by. As an added bonus the Police and Fire Departments will be having their open houses that day so be sure and stop in to check them out as well!

Friday Food Backpack Program begins again

The School Year has begun, and we are once again collecting food for the Methuen Schools 'Friday Food Backpack Program'.  This program directly and discreetly assists Methuen students and their families.  These students rely on the school breakfast and lunch, and need a little assistance over the weekend or during school vacations & holidays.  Our patrons have donated generously over the past couple of years, and we thank you for your help.  If you would like to donate, we have a basket set up near the Main Desk.  The suggested donations include canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, beans, rice, soup, tuna fish, cereal, nuts, peanut butter and granola bars.  Please, no glass containers as many of these backpacks go home with the students on the bus.  Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Be Happy
October 23 7pm

Join us Monday, October 23 at 7pm to discover The Science of Happiness and How to be Happier.  Do you ever find yourself wishing you could feel happier?  Many of us do and we think we will feel happier as a result of something - such as finding a new job, finishing a project, losing 10 pounds, etc.  However, psychologists and neurologists are now realizing that happiness can be more readily achieved through changing the way we think.  Lizzie Linn Casanave, professor of philosophy at Northern Essex Community College, will explain this revolutionary concept and provide you with practical tools for achieving this new mindset.  This program is brought to you in conjunction with the NECC Speakers Bureau.
