Milpitas HS entrepreneurs display S4CA projects
Milpitas High School students shared their S4CA (Santa Clara County Construction Careers Association) projects with the Board and community. Milpitas HS's CTE Engineering and Architecture Teacher Paul Okoye guided them in their work.
Middle school students
share MAGIC projects
Middle school students in MAGIC (More Active Girls In Computing), a program sponsored by the Milpitas Community Education Foundation, paired up with professional women in the STEM industry for weekly one on one mentoring in an exploration of STEM for approximately 5 months.
Student Nutrition Services team provides update on changes in Child Nutrition Programs
Sandy Huynh, Director of Student Nutrition Services & Warehouse Sandy Huynh was joined by Fatemeh Tabib, Field Operation Supervisor; Sucheta Gehani, Field Operation Supervisor; Peter Neddersen, Central Kitchen Lead; Carmen Rodriguez, Satellite Operator at Russell Middle; Rachelle Dalisay, Satellite Operator at Randall Elementary; and Satvika Iyer, Student of Milpitas High School, to provide an update about the changes in Child Nutrition Programs, central kitchen production and site operations, as well as the plan for next school year.
  
LEADERSHIP HIRES
New Rancho, TRMS principals announced
MUSD announced the hiring of new principals at Rancho Milpitas and Thomas Russell Middle Schools, as well as the additions of two district support leaders, for the 2023-24 school year.

A Rancho MS and Alexander Rose Elementary School alumnus, Vern Caruz returns to Milpitas as the new site leader at Rancho with 20 years of public education and instructional leadership experience, most recently as the Lead Principal for Oak Grove School District.

“I am a proud product of Milpitas and a reminder of what we work tirelessly for everyday can perhaps enable an immigrant child like me to reach their potential,” shared Principal Vern Caruz, whose family immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines 38 years ago.

Shangrila Mia-Ramzan, an equity-focused educator with more than two decades of work in TK-8 school administration including the last five as principal of Pearl Zanker Elementary School, was announced as the new Russell MS site leader.

“At the core of our district’s foundation lies student achievement, social-emotional learning, and the engagement of all community stakeholders,” said Principal Mia-Ramzan, who leads with equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

Joining the district office are new Behavior Intervention Supervisor Stephanie Diaz; and new Coordinator II of EL and Math/Literacy Intervention Programs Shannon Soza.
VIDEO RESOLUTION
MHS True Colors Club shares video resolution for Celebration of June as Pride Month
Students from Milpitas High School's True Colors Club produced a video reading of Resolution 2023.33 Encouraging the Celebration of June as LGBTQ Pride Month, which was unanimously adopted by the MUSD Board of Education at the June 13 meeting.
RECOGNITIONS
MHS student leader Satvika Iyer
Milpitas High School student leader Satvika Iyer was recognized by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for being named the 2023 #NatureBridge Student of the Year for her environmental advocacy at the June 13 meeting. Iyer spoke at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health last fall. Learn more about Satvika's accomplishment here. Later in the meeting, Satvika also presented, along with the MUSD Student Nutrition Services Team, a SNS board report. She spearheaded an initiative to bring more vegetarian options to the MHS menu.
Eagle Scout, MHS student Rajan Dasu
Milpitas HS student Rajan Dasu was recognized by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for achievements as an Eagle Scout (Troop 611) and his Eagle Scout project, where he repaired fencing at the San Jose Betsuin Temple.
Team USA's Sydney Moon and Kayden Ho
Milpitas HS student athletes Sydney Moon and Kayden Ho were honored by the Board and District leadership for winning medals and representing Team USA at the Pan American Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Moon took home a Gold Medal in the Junior Team Freestyle Poomsae, while Ho secured a Silver Medal in the Junior Male Team Poomsae (forms).
RETIREMENT
Retiring district leader Jonathon Brunson honored by MUSD Board, leadership
MUSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Relations Jonathon Brunson was recognized by the Board of Education and District leadership for his work serving our MUSD Community over the last five years. He is retiring at the end of this month after more than three decades in education.

Supervisor Otto Lee surprised Superintendent Cheryl Jordan with a special recognition for her achievement of being named the Association of California School Administrators 2023 State Superintendent of the Year.
