This Weekend in Worship

Though Jesus was a devout Jew who practiced his faith, he was criticized for eating with tax collectors and sinners—the religiously nonobservant. Jesus criticizes the self-righteous and reminds us that mercy is to be at the heart of our religious practices. God continues to be made known in those on the margins of society, like Matthew the tax collector and the hemorrhaging woman. As we gather each Lord’s day we receive the healing that makes us well and sends us forth to be signs of God’s mercy for the world.

Columbarium & Memory Garden Renovation Info Sessions

The Faith Lutheran Church Council has approved the addition of a columbarium to be located in what will be a newly renovated Memory Garden on the east side of the church facility. A columbarium is a collection of niches designed to house urns containing cremated human remains (cremains). It will serve as a sacred resting place for loved ones who have died and for the care, placement, and inurnment of their cremated remains. The Memory Garden will allow for peaceful meditation and prayer and will serve as a multi-purpose space for congregational use.

The Columbarium Task Force will be holding information sessions to share details and begin the sale of niches and raise funds for the Memory Garden renovation.

Information Sessions will take place in St. Michael’s Hall.

Saturday, June 10 @ 4:00 pm

Sunday, June 11 @ 10:30 am

Thursday, June 15 @ 10:00 am

Summer Small Group Study

Sharing our Faith Stories

Dive deep into the congregation-wide theme “Be the Light” this summer by joining a small group for food, fellowship, and Bible study. The summer Bible study opens biblically-based conversations about how to be relational, flexible, and respectful in sharing God’s story with others in our daily lives. This is intended for use at home and for new or existing small groups.

The curriculum “Sharing Our Faith Stories” is now available at faithlc.org/bethelight and paper copies can be found at the Welcome Center in the Commons.

If you would like to join a small group or like to begin a new one throughout the summer, contact Pastor Eric at eric@faithlc.org or call the church office.

A Word About Intinction

Faith Lutheran has a long history of using intinction as a common method to distribute the bread and wine of the sacrament. Intinction refers to the process of receiving the bread or wafer and dipping it into a chalice filled with wine and/or grape juice. We ceased using this method at the start of the 2020 pandemic for health reasons. This month, we have reinstated the option of intinction and will monitor the congregation’s use of this method of distribution. Individual cups of both wine and grape juice will also be available at one or more of the communion stations.
