Enrichment at Sheridan Prep Academy

Off to a Good Start

Our enrichment program at Sheridan Prep Academy began in January and has been going really well.

We see about 21 kindergartners every Wednesday for over an hour leading educational enrichment activities focusing on literacy. Every week, our team comes up with fund demonstrations using the letters of the alphabets to help reinforce what they are learning in the classroom.

One fun example is they learned about penguins during story time and then practiced writing and coloring in their penguin activity packet.

They really enjoyed this activity, but they said their favorite so far was Change A Pet's Life Day, which is to encourage people to adopt pets from shelters and raise awareness about animals in need.

The letter was A for “Animal and Adopt.” Our Executive Director wrote a story for that week to read to the kids on how Luna (the pup we found in our dumpster) found two new homes (at 15-LOVE and with Amber’s family). The kids had so many stories to share about their pets and loved hearing a true story about Luna. It was very sweet. They all made pet carriers to take their adopted stuffed animals home with them. We are so proud of how hard the students work when we spend time together.

Interested in volunteering, we could always use your help. Give us a call at 518-438-2039 for more info.

Thank you!

15-LOVE Participants Have a

Blast During Winter Break

View Highlight Reel

Winter break was a blast with our Healthy Futures and Excellence kids who participated in a two day STEM camp with fun learning activities. 15-LOVE high school Excellence participants volunteered their time assisting with the activities, which included building a mini golf course, creating 3-d block puzzles, and a tennis escape room challenge.

"We love providing fun and educational activities that the kids can enjoy as a group and that challenge them a bit," said 15-LOVE Executive Director Amber Marino. “It’s really important for our kids to have this type of time together to build their relationships, learn to work in groups, and just have a little fun during their school breaks. A big thanks to our staff for coming up with some amazing lessons." We also provide lunch and snacks throughout the day.

Our Healthy Futures program kicked off on January 25th. Classes are on Thursdays, from 4 – 5:15PM and 5:30 – 6:45PM. This is a great program that combines STEM, literacy, healthy living for students ages 6 – 12. The program is free. If you know someone who might benefit, please encourage them to register.

15-LOVE Excellence Participants headed to Camp Fowler for a Leadership Retreat - with no phones or internet! The group spent two days learning how and what it takes to be a good leader through skill building activities including, how to interview, public speaking, and money management.

"We were so happy to have our students attend the Leadership Retreat," said 15-LOVE Education Director Maxine Brisport. "It was the first one since the pandemic and much needed for all of them to learn and bond together."

They all took turns cooking for each other and helping clean up. In their down time they played a mix of different board games and spent time talking. For some extra fun, they went tubing at Oak Mountain.
