Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office to Provide Law Enforcement Services for Town of Bennett

The Board of Trustees and the Arapahoe County Commissioners approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with Arapahoe County to provide Law Enforcement Services to all of incorporated Bennett on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office will assume law enforcement duties for the entire Town of Bennett on May 1, 2024. The agreement provides patrol duties and corresponding investigative and supervisory support for the Town. The agreement calls for two full-time deputies and a part-time detective assigned to the Town of Bennett and allows for the addition of staff and resources as determined by review of the Town’s calls for service and future needs.

“The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office is deeply honored to provide law enforcement and safety services for the people of Bennett,” said Sheriff Tyler Brown. “Residents can be assured that we bring a tradition of professionalism, excellence and innovation to our work and that we are looking forward to building strong relationships with the entire community.”

“The Town of Bennett is greatly encouraged to have Arapahoe County expand their services to all of incorporated Bennett,” said Mayor Royce Pindell. “This partnership underscores our unwavering dedication to Town safety. Together, we are committed to ensuring a safe and thriving community for all Bennett residents.”

The agreement expressly delegates to the Sheriff’s Office the authority to enforce any and all laws applicable to and within the Town; however, the Town may enforce and issue summons for violations of the Bennett Municipal Code through its Community Services Officers.

This agreement encompasses startup costs with Arapahoe County. Additionally, the contract will be adjusted and prorated to reflect the precise duration of Arapahoe County’s service to Bennett.

Town Of Bennett Awarded FEMA Grant

The Town of Bennett was recently awarded a Hazard Mitigation Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for a backup generator system at the North Municipal Complex (NOMCOM).

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides funds to local governments for projects that reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from the effects of natural hazards.

The Town is grateful for the funding from FEMA for the backup generator system as NOMCOM is a critical government facility as it houses the water, wastewater, roads and buildings operations of the Town of Bennett.

Multiple hazards may disrupt a power supply to this facility and a back-up generator will assist with providing a secondary source of power during an emergency in order to provide essential services to the community during these emergencies and aids in disaster recovery efforts.
