Helping Hands Lead to Community Impact

Young Kha'miya likes to help. She regularly greets the Spring Grove Apartments staff and asks "is there anything I can do for anyone?"

Kha'miya's volunteer spirit has made her a great friend to the management team, and her hard work has made her an excellent student. So it was Community Engagement Associate Tammy Taylor-Jones' honor to be invited to Kha'miya's 2nd grade award ceremony on the last day of school.

Tammy said, "When I entered her packed classroom she excitedly ran up to me and greeted me with joy and gratitude." Kha'miya received several awards and Tammy was included in the photo with Kha'miya, her mom, and her teacher (left).

Atlantic Housing is all about community impact, and this photo of a thriving student surrounded by positive role models from both school and home is what community is all about! Tammy's visit to the school not only encouraged Kha'miya but it also led to an introduction to the Principal. Tammy said, "I met the Principal and we made arrangements to have a partnership with Spring Grove residents and her school. I absolutely love what I do."

Keep Up the Great Work!

A Day of Service at Dallas LIFE

Fifteen Atlantic Housing corporate employees used their volunteer time off to partner with Dallas LIFE, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides food, shelter, education, and training for homeless individuals and families. Dallas LIFE is now considered the largest homeless shelter in North Texas.

Atlantic Housing's CFO, Wil Saqueton, participated in the day of service. He said, "The organization we served, Dallas LIFE, is doing great work for the Dallas homeless population, and their transitional housing services are related to AHF's mission of providing quality affordable housing to low/moderate income families."

The group collected school supplies to donate and then drove out to Dallas LIFE to unload and organize clothing donations, stock toiletry shelves, and fill care bags and hygiene kits. Dallas LIFE's Director of Volunteers, Pamela Culbertson, expressed her gratitude, saying "What a great group of adults, representing Atlantic Housing Foundation, volunteered with us! The energy was high and everyone came ready to serve."
