First Responders Memorial Ground Breaking Event & Brick Paver Program


The City will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the First Responders Memorial at Fire Station #2 on Friday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. The memorial will consist of a sculpture created to memorialize the fateful day of 9/11 in our community with a piece of rail given to the City from the Twin Towers. In addition to the sculpture, there will be a courtyard around the sculpture with commemorative bricks to honor a loved one or commemorate a special occasion with a permanent engraved brick paver. Public Works Citizens Academy


Are you interested in the public works field and want to know more about what the Public Works Department does? If so, the Public Works Citizen's Academy is for you. Join us for six evening sessions from April 11 - May 9 where we will highlight topics such as streets, forestry, electrical, wastewater and stormwater. Register here. Space is limited and registration closes April 5th.


Spring Clean-Up Dates


The City’s annual Spring Clean-Up will be held on the following Saturdays:


  • April 13 for those with a Wednesday garbage pick-up
  • April 20 for those with a Thursday pick-up
  • April 27 for those with a Friday pick-up


For a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items, visit the City’s website at elmhurst.org/refuseandrecycling. Items other than large appliances, furniture and bulk pieces must be placed in bags, cans, or boxes weighing no more than 50 lbs. each.

I-290 FRONTAGE ROAD CLOSURE, DETOURS SCHEDULED THROUGH JUNE AS PART OF NORTH AVENUE INTERCHANGE RECONSTRUCTION



Closure of the I-290 Frontage Road under the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) is scheduled to begin Monday, April 1, and continue through June to allow for reconstruction work to continue on local roads. Detours will be posted.

The closure is needed to complete reconstruction of Frontage Road, Northwest Avenue and County Line Road as part of the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways led project that will accommodate the Illinois Tollway’s North Avenue Interchange Project on the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294). Use Rain as a Resource with Rain Barrels!


Rain barrels are a great way to capture water and put it to good use. The Conservation Foundation sells rain barrels year round. There will be a local pickup the first Saturday of each month from April - September from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Water Reclamation Facility (625 S. Rte. 83 Elmhurst). Barrels can also be purchased in person at The Conservation Foundation’s headquarters at McDonald Farm (10S404 Knoch Knolls Rd., Naperville). Visit elmhurst.org/rainbarrels for more information.


Vehicle Sticker Reminder


City vehicle stickers must be purchased and displayed by May 1 on all vehicles registered or garaged within City limits. Stickers are sold at a discount from March 1 through April 30. Applications will be mailed to residents and stickers can be purchased in person, by mail, or online at elmhurst.org/vehiclestickers. Money collected through the sale of vehicle stickers goes into the City’s General Fund and is used for roadway maintenance and construction.

Sundays June 9 - September 29 | 9AM-2PM | 180 W. Park lot 


Bensidoun USA is set to present a vibrant market highlighting local artisan foods and goods.


The Elmhurst French Market will be located at the municipal lot at 180 W. Park at the corner of Park and Prospect. The duration of the market would be Sundays from June through September, from 9am – 2pm. This was identified as an ideal space and time for the market, with no need for street closure or barricades, and ample surrounding public parking.
