More Friends of the Library News
The Friends of the Library want to thank supporters for two successful fundraisers last month. Our Presidents’ Day Weekend Mini-Golf Tournament had an amazing turnout! Thanks to our sponsors and golfers! And, thank you to folks who bought See's chocolates for your loved ones and families for Valentine's Day.

Both of these fundraisers will support our project to beautify the Library entrance. The beautification project will begin this spring. You can help to make sure we complete this project by donating a dollar or two when you visit the Library. You will see our donation box, with our fundraiser “thermometer” on a table near the front door. Watch our progress as we make our garden grow!

The Friends of the Library’s Dine-Around Methuen returns to the Irish Cottage on March 3rd from 4-10pm. Great food and beverages are served at this favorite restaurant in Methuen. Flyers are available at the main desk or online.

And as you plan for keeping the kids busy during April School Vacation, watch for information about the Library’s Life-Size CandyLand Game for kids of all ages that will take place on Thursday April 21st and so much more on our website & Friends' Event page.
Check Out Our Book Groups
The Nevins Library hosts several book groups open to the public, and here are two of our special groups for adults:

Have you heard the WORDS? We Only Read Diverse Books is a new book discussion group at Nevins Library that focuses on authors and stories that explore diverse and underrepresented voices and experiences. We have plenty of seats at the table. Our next meeting is Tuesday, March 8th at 7pm, the book, Winter Counts by David Heska Weiden. A groundbreaking thriller about a vigilante on a Native American reservation who embarks on a dangerous mission to track down the source of a heroin influx. This book is now available to borrow right at the Main Desk.

Do you love young adult books? You might be surprised at how many adults do love them! Our Forever Young-ish Book Group is the club for you! New members are welcome to join us on March 17th at 7pm to discuss The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee. Copies of this book are also available at the circulation desk. For more information, please contact Alison at acochrane@nevinslibrary.org.
Baby Sign Language
We’re kicking off the spring season with a wonderful new Baby Sign Language program for our youngest patrons and their parents! (Ages 2mo. - 12mo old only please).

“Baby sign language” helps pre-verbal babies communicate basic needs to their caregivers (perhaps averting some tears and frustration, as well), and benefits children’s language development.

This four-week class teaches simple, useful sign language in a relaxed atmosphere, including plenty of practice and resources to continue learning at home.

(Please note that participants are expected to attend all four classes, to be held on 3/16, 3/23, 3/30, and 4/6; registering for the class on 3/16, automatically registers you for the subsequent dates.)
Just for Teens!
A Club for Every Teen
Book lovers, Book Babble is for you. Join us on Thursday, March 3 at 7pm to discuss Solo by Kwame Alexander and Mary Rand Hess. Copies of this book are available at the circulation desk.

LGBTQIAP+ teens and allies are welcome to join Rainbow Club. We will meet Thursday, March 10 at 7pm to learn more about LGBTQIAP+ culture and do an activity.

Movie fans, you'll love Movie Club. Join us Monday, March 21 at 4pm to watch a movie of your choosing!

New members are always welcome at any and all of the clubs. Join the fun!

What's Happening in Children's?
Join our New Initiative!
We invite parents of young children to join our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Challenge!

Studies show that regularly reading aloud to children helps strengthen their language skills, builds their vocabulary, and lays the groundwork for them to be successful readers on their own. Parents and caretakers, you can help create that foundation by reading 1000 books with your child before kindergarten, and also earn fun rewards for your participation. That might sound like a lot of books, but reading one book a day for three years, or three books a day for one year, will add up to more than 1000 books! Come by the Children’s Department to learn more about this fun and enriching opportunity.

And speaking of challenges, this month we’re teaming up with the Boston Bruins for our annual PJ Drive for local children in need. Our library's goal this year is to collect 250 new pairs of children’s and teens’ pajamas during the drive, which ends on March 31. If you’d like to help, please drop off your donations on the main floor or in the Children’s Department – thank you!

Throughout the month we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes (including a bilingual program), science sessions, games, book groups, and craft clubs – keep an eye on the Children’s Department calendar and Facebook page to learn about these and other upcoming programs!

Happy March, and Happy Reading!
