U of R Crowns 2024 3MT Champion


Biology PhD student Michael Mensah, studying under Dr. Kerri Finlay, was crowned the champion of the University of Regina Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition held at Darke Hall on March 25. He also was selected by the audience of 150 people for the People's Choice Award.


Biology master's student Breeann Phillips, studying under Dr. Josef Buttigieg, was the first runner-up.

Film master's student Maxine Adjei-Dadson, studying under Dr. Sheila Petty, was the second runner-up.


Mensah will deliver his presentation Fresh Solutions for Salty Cows at the 2024 Western Regional 3MT Competition, which will take place at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus on May 8.


3MT showcases and celebrates graduate-level research, challenging students to present their work an accessible and compelling way to engage others outside of their fields in three minutes or less — with the assistance of just one static slide.

Startup Bootcamp Pitch Finale


Join us for the Pitch Finale event! Students have refined their business ideas and pitches and are looking to impress a panel of judges for cash prizes. Zack Storms, Co-Founder of Startup TNT, also joins us for a fireside chat during the judge deliberations. Lunch and refreshments will be served. Registration is required.


Startup 101 Bootcamp is delivered in three parts, running from November to April. If you are interested in entrepreneurship, innovation or startups, this program is for you!

If you missed out on the first installment of the Startup Bootcamp, watch for the next session being held in 2024-25.

The Award for Outstanding Graduate Supervision recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated a record of excellent mentorship and supervision of graduate students at the University of Regina. The winner will be nominated for the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies (CAGS) Award for Outstanding Graduate Mentorship. The nomination deadline is until April 30. Consider nominating your supervisor!

Turtle Island Indigenous Science Conference


FGSR will be sponsoring 15 graduate students to participate in the Turtle Island Indigenous Science Conference at First Nations University of Canada, the University of Regina and the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council Centre May 21-23.


The overarching theme of this year’s conference is evidence-based approaches to Indigenous Knowledge and Science. Conference sessions will be devoted to:

  • Authentic and inclusive approaches to discovery and teaching
  • Engaging youth in STEM
  • Indigenous engagement with water, land, and the environment
  • Relationships, partnerships, and sharing knowledges in a good way
  • Open sessions on other topics

Announcing a new Entrance Award!

The Chancellor’s Fellowship is a new opportunity for graduate students to support their first year of study. This prestigious award features two Scholarships each valued at $25,000, which is paid out over the first year of your degree program. Please note that this is an entrance award, open to students who are beginning their degree in the 2024-2025 school year. Applications for this award will open on GAP April 1 with the deadline for completed applications set for April 19. You can find more details about the Chancellor’s Fellowship here.
