Head or Heart?
Myrt Creigh, Disciple of Christ
Years ago, I was getting in my car after work, when a lady came running up to my car window repeatedly yelling, “Do you know Jesus?”. Her heart was bursting and I couldn’t help roll down the window and reply, “Yes, I do”…her reply was “Isn’t He wonderful? Tell everybody!” What joy! I’ll never forget that day…her enthusiasm was contagious!

What if all of us had that enthusiasm and commitment to Jesus? This past year, I’ve been rereading the scriptures with what you might call “my eyes wide open”. There are passages that I have read hundreds of times but not like this…as I have shared with friends…this time it was with my heart and not my head.

I began teaching the Bible when I was 14 with the encouragement of my mother to preschoolers. Now after 8 decades I’ve taught every age and demographic…I had the head knowledge but now with the heart finally opened up to what He’s telling us.

I encourage you to go into your devotional time with your heart open...ask God to help you to see and hear what He wants you to see and hear. Believe me you’ll find it so rewarding, I know I have...old dogs can learn new things.

A Word from Worship
Greetings New Life Church family --

Happy Summer!  It's hard to believe how long ago the Hurricane was and yet so many continue to struggle, with repairs needed, insurance coverage issues, and new water leaks showing up now that rain has begun - like in the office! All these things lead to a level of frustration and discouragement in almost daily conversations. During times of troubles, however, we can find hidden blessings. As most of you know, my challenges have been lifelong major health problems. Whatever the situation, I've learned that trying to bring about positive changes through our own strength and plans, always results in more frustration. God is waiting for us to stop trying to figure things out and make changes but to start trusting Him to change us in ways we can't do by ourselves.  Spend time with God and ask for His help --- after all if He can't do it, it can't be done; but He can and He will!  It took me awhile, with a lot of prayer, but I promise you, the blessings are amazing. It's not a magic pill to take away the pain, or whatever frustration you're experiencing but there are hidden blessings in addition to our personal relief and understanding but one thing I've learned is how to show compassion to others. God is the source of all comfort, and He teaches us this gift as well. The Lord shows mercy gives us peace even in the midst of our greatest pain. As a result, when others are struggling, and we've learned the true meaning of comfort and are able to pass it on. I thank the Holy Spirit for showing me people in need of comfort as I have experienced at many times in my faith journey. If you'd like to learn more, please join us on Thursdays at noon in the sanctuary where people like you and me share conversation and prayers to develop these blessings.
Please watch the Bridge for information on upcoming events.  Have a blessed week.

I'm praying for you!
