Federal Public Health Emergency Ends; Changes to Medicaid Renewals Coming
Joining us will be Jetta Wiedemeier Bower
(She/her/hers), Volunteer and Outreach
Manager At the Senior LinkAge Line® to discuss significant, timely changes happening with Medicare.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, individuals with lower incomes who were eligible for the federal Medicaid program - in Minnesota, we call the program Medical Assistance - did not lose eligibility for their health insurance. The two federal programs were “coupled” together as a safety net for our neighbors who received Medicare and Medical Assistance.
In December 2022, President Biden announced that the public health emergency would end on May 11. As a result, Minnesota counties will now be required to redetermine eligibility for this vital program. This could mean that low-income Minnesotans lose eligibility for significant health insurance benefits.
Jetta will provide an overview of the national landscape, the uncoupling of these two federal programs, and what you need to know moving forward.
