GGUSD Teacher Named Semifinalist in OC Teacher of the Year Program

Earlier this week, Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi and Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Dr. Stephanie Heflin made a surprise visit to Alamitos Intermediate School to congratulate Teacher Monique Becerra on being named one of only 15 semifinalists for the Orange County Department of Education's 2024 Teacher of the Year program. GGUSD's three Teacher of the Year nominees also include Paine Elementary Teacher Meghan Fusillo and Monroe Elementary Language Academy Teacher Rolando Nunez. All 3 will be recognized at a board meeting and at the OCDE Teacher of the Year Dinner in the fall.

GGUSD Culinary Students Take Home First Place

GGUSD culinary arts pathway students brought home some big wins last month at the Cooking Up Change competition hosted by Kid Healthy Greater Orange County where students were tasked with creating a school lunch menu following nutritional guidelines. Congratulations to Garden Grove High School's team for their first-place win with their Cajun Chicken Fajitas meal, Bolsa Grande's team for placing third, and the Los Amigos team for winning the Audience Choice Award.

GGUSD Highlights Importance of Healthy Eating

March is National Nutrition Month and in GGUSD we believe wholeheartedly that healthy eating and physical activity contribute greatly to students’ academic success and personal wellness! We are proud to offer FREE nutritious breakfast and lunch to ALL students. Our amazing Food Services staff does a fantastic job making school meals that meet important nutritional guidelines. Cook Celebrates Distinguished School Status

Cook Elementary School celebrated being named a 2023 California Distinguished School with a schoolwide assembly recently! In true Cook fashion, they also celebrated some super scholars for their recent successes in academics and in demonstrating the school's values of being responsible, organized, accepting and respectful! Way to go Cook Lions!

GGUSD Bus Drivers Shine in Skills Competition

The Bus Roadeo returned after a 3-year hiatus and GGUSD's amazing drivers did an outstanding job showcasing their safe driving skills. We're so proud of these drivers and all they do to provide a caring and safe ride to and from school to our students!

Pacifica NJROTC Makes History

Over Spring Break, Pacifica High School’s NJROTC Program made history by earning fourth place out of 623 programs nationwide in the “Academic, Athletic, and Drill National Championships'' held in Pensacola Florida. The NJROTC program qualified for the Navy Nationals by successfully competing in the Southern California Area Championships and the State Championships. 



The NJROTC Nationals remain the most comprehensive test of overall JROTC training and performance in existence today. This year, many of the nation's finest NJROTC units from all over the country participated in this exciting, two-day academic, athletic and drill competition. No competition in the world of JROTC provides a better test of all-around program quality than the "Navy Nationals".
