Giving Kids the Advantage

May is National Tennis Month and we are excited to tell you about all the fun stuff we have been doing to celebrate. We just announced that our Summer Program schedule is up and registration is live. We added two new classes to the schedule in each County: High School Fundamentals (for middle and high school students wanting to make an HS team) and an Adaptive Class (for students who would benefit from adaptations to help them be successful). We will continue with the online registration, as we found it's the best way to keep everything organized, but class sizes will not be limited.

Please note due to limited spacing in our Education Programming, our cancellation policy remains in effect (please contact us if you will miss a class so students from the wait list can attend). As for Tennis Programming, canceling is encouraged if you won't be returning for the remainder of the summer (missing a class is fine).

Our adult tennis lessons are still taking place on Saturday and Wednesday at different parks in the region. Our Wednesday class finally kicked off after a delay due to rain. Adult lessons go until 5/31. Every season our class sizes grow and we are seeing repeat players. All good stuff and lots of fun!

Another way we celebrated this month was by hosting a tennis demonstration in our parking lot at our Spring Book Giveaway on May 9th. You can read more below about all the fun we had with our community.

On May 13th, our staff and instructors participated in an Adaptive Training at the Capital District YMCA in Guilderland put on by USTA Eastern. Our instructors learned how to lead quality adaptive classes for students who can benefit from an adaptive environment including, but not limited to students with physical limitations, cognitive-developmental or social-emotional needs.

Spring Book Giveaway a Success

15-LOVE held its spring Book Giveaway on May 2nd for underserved children across the Capital Region. More than 150 attendees passed through for the 3 hour event.

Children were invited to receive two new books and an unlimited number of gently used books. In addition to the book giveaway, children participated in a tennis demonstration and made some arts and crafts.

Luna's Gotcha Day

Last but not least, we are excited to introduce 15-LOVE's new on-site security guard. Her name is Luna, affectionately known as DD, Fancy Feet, Princess, and Little Luna, among others. She weighs in at 6lbs with the fluffiest white fur and the sweetest disposition. We are so lucky to have this pint-sized princess protect us at all costs. Here's the story of how we met Luna and how she became part of the 15-LOVE staff:

Little did we know that on May 10th, 2022 our lives would change when a staff member went to put trash in the dumpster, and there sat little Luna on a bunch of trash, shaking like a leaf, with a bag of food and a bowl.

We sprang into action and pulled her out. She got a bath and lots of love from all of our staff that day. Our initial thoughts were to find her the best home and had several people willing to take her. However, our Executive Director and her family decided they would keep Luna. We were beyond excited to know that we would get to be part of her new life. So, every day she comes to work with Amber and patrols the office. She brings so much joy to the staff and visitors.

So if you ever come to our office, don't be alarmed by her barks, she’s just protecting her new home, but she’s definitely all bark and no bite.

Thank you for considering a gift to 15-LOVE! 15-LOVE (Capital Region Youth Tennis Foundation, Inc) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. All purchases made from this list for the organization are tax deductible to the extent permissible by law.
