Have you heard of “Maycember”? The term, a combination of May and December, is growing in popularity as many people find the month of May just as busy as the Christmas season!
For many of our Mercy schools, this time marks the end of the academic year and heralds a host of events including the celebration of sacraments, the conclusion of the Easter season with Pentecost Sunday on May 28, May crownings, awards ceremonies, end-of-the-year exams and of course graduations. Catherine McAuley offers us this piece of advice: “We have one solid comfort amidst this little tripping about, our hearts can always be in the same place, centred in God, for whom alone we go forward or stay back.”
We share the following reminders about ways your school community can “center its heart” on our Mercy mission in the coming weeks.
June 1 is the deadline to register for the Conference of Mercy Student Leaders, which will be held June 18-21 at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Learn more about this exciting opportunity for student leaders.
June 15 is the deadline to register for Partners in Ministry Leadership Academy, to be held July 24-25 at Mercy Center in Belmont, North Carolina. This program welcomes new school leaders, those relatively new to a Mercy school, those seeking greater exercise of leadership and those who want to learn more about the Mercy charism and tradition. Learn more.
The nomination process will close July 15 for the Sister Corinne Raven Mercy Education Leadership Award. The award, established in 2022, was named for Sister Corinne Raven, RSM, a pillar of our Mercy Education community. This annual award recognizes one individual each year who has made a lasting impact on Mercy education and inspired others through commitment to our Mercy Education Core Values. The late Sister Rosemary Herron, RSM, was recognized as the inaugural recipient of this award. The 2023 recipient will be announced at the Mercy Education Conference in October. Please visit our website for more information, including the nomination form.
Finally, don’t forget to check out our most recent issue of Mercy Impact highlighting the many ways our member schools engage in the Mercy Core Values. This issue focuses on Educational Courage and Inspired By Faith. Read it here!
