Art Space Update

May 18, 2023

How can we help art and culture thrive in Somerville through expanding our capacity? Join us for an open city-wide forum to share your thoughts.

The Cultural Capacity Plan is Underway

Throughout the spring our Cultural Ambassadors for the Somerville Cultural Capacity Plan have been hosting a variety of conversations around many topic areas to hear from the community. We have received some great insight from various artistic mediums, a variety of organization types, and diverse groups of individuals. To see the full schedule of all the conversations held click here.

What is Next

Come to the city-wide forum on May 23 at the Armory! At this forum you'll meet the Ambassadors and continue the Somerville Cultural Capacity Plan conversations about how to strengthen and improve access to Somerville's cultural assets and learn about themes that resonated across cultural groups. Help us prioritize which of these key issues and big ideas to explore in working groups over the summer of 2023.  Food and refreshments served.

Background on the Cultural Capacity Plan

Building on previous cultural planning efforts in Union Square and pre-planning work initiated in 2020, the Somerville Cultural Plan will provide the container for cross-cultural conversations that will build capacity for cultural change by establishing the vision, policy framework, implementation strategies, organizational structures, and funding requirements needed to develop Somerville’s cultural community in ways that weave arts and culture into other policy and practice areas and help this community to flourish. The City of Somerville has hired Forecast Public Art and Solomon Office to lead this effort.
