"If I cannot do great things, I can do SMALL things in a great way." - Martin Luther King Jr.A direct and compelling headline

"It's the most rewarding nursing I do all year."

It started with Pauline Worsfold.

The OR Recovery Room Nurse heard about CAMTA through a co-worker and took part in her first mission trip with the team in 2006. "They said this will change your life and it did. It's the most rewarding nursing I do all year."

She remembers patients like Jorge, who had to undergo multiple surgeries to repair his hip and now has a good job. Jorge has also volunteered with CAMTA as a translator.

There's Mariama who had been turned away by doctors, losing all hope before she discovered CAMTA. Mariama was able to have hip replacement surgery and gain back her independence. Pauline's passion and enthusiasm for the work CAMTA does in Quito has inspired over ten others to volunteer with the organization.

"It's a way to give back."

Bev Runka, also a Recovery Room Nurse, was recruited by Pauline. Bev has been on every CAMTA Mission since 2009.

"It sounded like a very rewarding thing to do, to help people walk and get a new lease on life.

There's so much need everywhere, it's a way to give back," Bev said, "I've been given so much in life."

Web of Love

Pauline also recruited OR Recovery Room Nurse Margaret Ropcean who has been part of three CAMTA Mission Teams in Quito.

"It was a lifelong dream of mine to do this kind of work and now I'm kind of addicted to it," Margaret said. "I have nursed for so many years, this is truly a calling - a blessing."

Ropcean talks about the "web of love" - the camaraderie among team members who all share a desire to help.

"Patients say you are doing so much for them, but they do so much for us."

Margaret has a nephew who requires ongoing orthopedic surgeries and dedicates her missions to him.
