Letter from the Director - Lance Newcomb

Greetings and salutations from Tipton County.

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Lance Newcomb. I have been blessed to become the new Director of Safe Harbor of Tipton County. I have been with Safe Harbor, in some capacity, since 2016 and have seen the Lord do some wonderful things in my life, as well as our company and am so excited to be in this new role as director of Tipton County. I have worked in several aspects of this ministry, and am excited about the newest chapter in my life, as well as the time ahead in this city.

We have hit the ground running with renovations in our new administration building and trying to build our clients up so that they are ready for their new life upon graduating our program. We currently have 6 very strong partners where we are sending our clients to work in hopes of them gaining and promoting established skills. We are also partnering with our IOP program to give our clients even more tools to help them in their success and through these combined efforts, we are seeing lives change for the better. Our work program is only a portion of our program.

We are very proud of the classes and counseling that our men receive on a daily basis. Our classes consist of fatherhood, relapse prevention, anger management, pastoral support, employment skills, and money management. We believe that these classes offer our clients the opportunity to gain knowledge from learned counselors during groups and gives them the opportunity to voice their experience in this environment.

Last, but not least, I was able to be a part of graduation with our men as Director and let me tell you, I was so excited for them. I have seen these very people come into our program doubting every aspect of their lives.....and to see them turn that around and find confidence in themselves and their God is a joy that I can not express on paper. This is something that one would have to see in person.

As stated earlier, it has been a route where we hit the ground running, and me and my team have no intention of slowing down now. Although the tornado tried to set us back, God has truly blessed us in every way . It reminds me of a story I once heard that goes like this, There was once a bird that landed on a tree and said tell me something I don't already know, the tree replied I have never seen a storm that has not passed over.

Thank you First Baptist Church of Covington! The men of Safe Harbor were very excited to receive these beautiful Bibles! Bibles are something that we are always in need of, so this was right on time! Thank you again for being such a great partner of Safe Harbor of Tipton County!

Movie Day & the guys had a blast! Thank you to our Admissions Coordinator, Suzanne, for all you do for our clients!

Pastor Brad Bowie leading the 7 am Exercise class in TC this morning!

Baptisms in Tipton County!

Shout out to our Admissions Coordinator, Suzanne, for putting together a partnership with Tipton County Animal Shelter! We can partner a client with a dog and they can walk and exercise them. This is a win win as the clients love working with these animals and forming bonds that will help them learn relationship building skills.

Dr. Laney shared a powerful heart felt word for chapel service. Scripture was taken from Genesis chapter 4:1-10, are you Able or are you still raising Cain.

The guys having fun and fellowship with our cornhole tournament this weekend. It's important fresh in sobriety to learn what real fun and friends are!

Partner of the Quarter - Pacific Manufacturing Tennessee Inc.

Safe Harbor of Tipton County would like to congratulate Pacific Manufacturing Tennessee Inc. as our Partner of the Quarter.

We have just partnered with them and they long to help the men in this program to provide them with careers!

Pacific Manufacturing currently employs 28 of our men. We would not be able to do what we do without the dedication, support and job opportunities provided to our clients without Pacific Manufacturing.

We have had a great beginning with Pacific Manufacturing and our clients love the job. We hope that our relationship will continue throughout the years with growth and stability.

Client of the Quarter

"I want to share how coming to Safe Harbor made all the difference in my life. First, I will have to say that this was not my first attempt at getting clean. I have been to other programs and this is also my second time at Safe Harbor. I have been struggling with drugs (crack cocaine) for over 30 years. As a result I have lost jobs, been incarcerated, and most importantly it has kept me away from family and friends.

Coming to Safe Harbor this time I realized that this is not a change that could be done on the outside but had to be done on the inside. I had to have a complete change of heart and the way I think. So when I came this time to Safe Harbor I began to listen and to do that I had to quiet down a lot of negative voice not only around me but also that were coming from within me. Once I did this I was able to hear the information and instruction that members of the staff and the instructors that were teaching class were sharing with me that would help me to live a better life, and this made all the difference."

Staff of the Quarter - Billy Rickard

First of all It's hard to just pick one staff member of the quarter. I could not have made it through this quarter without the help of each individual on my staff! None the less I was left with the task of selecting just one. After much consideration and debate, I have selected Mr. Billy Rickard.

I have learned there is no task to big nor small for Mr. Rickard and no matter what it is he will get it accomplished. He exceeds expectations, is fully committed. His love for the men in our facility is shown through his daily walk as well as countless hours that not a lot of people see. He works through the good, the bad, and the ugly.

He has shown he doesn't just have a career here, I believe he has a calling. He has grown so much as an employee since May of last year. He is a great part of the family and I consider him to be a brother. I would also like to thank his family for the hours he has had to sacrifice for this ministry, and the multiple hours he spends making sure when he is off that the men at Safe Harbor are still being taken care of!

Thank you for going above and beyond!
