US Pushes Canada to Impose Visas on Mexican Visitors to Ease Flow From North

Officials in the US say that Mexican migrants are using the Canadian border as a back door into the US, avoiding the busy and more closely guarded southwestern border. According to the Wall Street Journal, the US is pushing Canada to impose visa requirements on Mexican visitors, aiming to stem a surge in illegal crossings at the northern border.


Venezuela Stops Deportation Flights from US

Removal flights sending migrants who entered the US without authorization back to Venezuela have been rejected by their government for the past four weeks and the reason being cited is the US imposed sanctions on state-owned mining companies in Venezuela. The flights contained less than 2,000 migrants out of the more than 500,000 that have entered through Mexico since January of 2021.


Struck-down New York law allowing non-citizens to vote misrepresented online

A fact check by USA Today verifying a post seen by over 40,000 people claiming undocumented immigrants can vote in New York showed that only US citizens are allowed to vote in New York. The video post misrepresented a 2021 law that would have allowed legal non-citizens to vote but which was struck down by a state Supreme Court judge before going into effect last year on January 9, 2023.


Catholic Charities calls on NY to provide more financial aid to migrants

Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, executive director of Catholic Charities of New York, in a televised interview on “Inside City Hall” argued against Mayor Eric Adams' announcement that would slash an additional 10 percent from migrant support funding by the city.


More than 70 Senegalese migrants discovered living in cramped NYC basement where they sleep in shifts

New York City fire prevention inspectors discovered the illegal boarding in Queens housing dozens of migrant men have been living in a cramped basement under a Queens furniture store. According to the report, the beds there are so in-demand that only half the inhabitants can sleep there at one time.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he wants to revert back to an earlier version of the city’s sanctuary policies, which could again allow the city to collaborate with federal immigration authorities when an immigrant is merely suspected of or being investigated for a crime. He is reported as telling reporters that, “I want to go back to the standards of the previous mayors who I believe subscribed to my belief that people who are suspected of committing serious crimes in this city should be held accountable.”


Immigration crisis sees spike in voter concern as new poll shows big increase since January

Immigration is now the most important problem facing America, according to a new poll. The monthly Gallup survey found that 28 percent of US adults were most concerned about immigration, compared with 20 percent who said the same in January. The group calling immigration the most important issue includes a majority (57 percent) of Republicans, 22 percent of Independents, and 10 percent of Democrats.
