SR Community:
I want to take this opportunity to thank our Athletic Co-Directors Jeremie Brunet and Jose De La Rosa for their years of service to our student athletes. The dedication from both Mr. De La Rosa and Mr. Brunet is what successfully navigated our athletic department out of the closures from the COVID-19 pandemic, increased student participation and upped the athletic offerings at SR. Their tireless commitment to our school established new systems and a solid legacy that will serve our community for years to come.
Beginning in 2023-2024, we will utilize the expertise of Jose and Jeremie in the classroom as full time teachers. I have observed the quality of teaching from these two men and trust they are going to have a major impact on increasing academic achievement at SR.
With this change in work assignments, I am also pleased to announce the selection of a new Athletic Director. A panel of administrators, a student athlete, a booster parent and staff interviewed seven qualified candidates to take over the program. Casey Sully has a strong vision for SR athletics and his proven ability to build programs will benefit our community. Coach Sully will continue to lead our football
program and extend his expertise to advance all of our teams. Mr. Sully has a Masters Degree in Sports Management and I have been impressed by his ability to build strong connections with students and the community. I trust you will all be equally enthusiastic with his leadership.
Please join me in welcoming Casey Sully at a meet and greet next week:

To the San Rafael community,
I am excited for the opportunity to be the new Athletic Director at San Rafael. I grew up in the East Bay and have had a passion for sports from a young age. That passion led me to play football, run track, and swim in high school. I then joined multiple intramural sports in college and continue to play in recreational leagues to this day. My interest in sports led me to begin coaching football at Pinole Valley
High School in 2014 right after finishing my degree in Biology at Denison University in Ohio. I’ve been coaching ever since. While working at Tamalpais High School, I got my Masters in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco. I love sports and I believe that they are a fantastic vehicle to connect people and to make a positive impact on the community and the lives of student-athletes.
A sports team is not made up of only the players participating. It is composed of the parents that raise those players, members of the community, the administration, the student body, coaches, and countless others. I believe that to have a strong athletics program, San Rafael student-athletes must have a
positive presence both on and off campus. Our teams will actively search out opportunities to improve our school and our neighborhoods. That includes community service projects, connecting with local elementary and middle schools, and hosting community events at San Rafael High School.
Winning and competing in sports is a byproduct of not only hard work, but strong connections and relationships. Our effort to build those connections with the community and with each other will be with a purposeful mindset framed with positive energy and complete accountability. Through those tenets, we can build something great at San Rafael. I actively encourage feedback, engagement, and contributions from any who want to be involved in building the San Rafael athletics program.
Uncommon and exceptional commitment to self-betterment and to each person on a team is where culture begins. To that end, we will strive to surround our students with the best possible coaches, facilities, academic resources, and equipment. Winning is a habit and success is cumulative, no matter how small the victory.
I love connecting with student-athletes and coaches and I believe that we can build on a blossoming athletics department at San Rafael. To be truly great and have a lasting impact, the relationships and the culture that’s built on campus and within the San Rafael community is essential. We are all Bulldogs.
I look forward to the successes and challenges that await us and I can’t wait to build something special.
Go Dawgs,
Casey Sully
