Greetings, Community Members and Partners –
Saturday, May 13 was Lone Star College-Houston North’s 3rd commencement ceremony. Fallbrook Church graciously allowed us to host the event within their beautiful sanctuary.
This year’s commencement celebrated the accomplishments of our largest LSC-Houston North class to date. There were over 150 students that participated in this year’s ceremony. By the end of the summer, the college is projecting to have over 300 graduates for the 2022-2023 academic year. This milestone represents a 25% increase over the previous year.
| The event had several highlights, including an outstanding student address by LSC-Houston North student Melenny Rios. She spoke of her journey, her mother's sacrifices, and encouraged her classmates to pursue their dreams. | Mayor Turner gave a rousing speech where he recognized the success of the students, connected his story to theirs, and encouraged them not to let fear hold them back. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee closed out the event with encouraging words and a proclamation for the college. | A few additional highlights included nearly 80 dual credit graduates. Victory Early College High School, which was recently ranked in the top 1% of Texas’s 3,200 high schools, had over 70 graduates. This year’s graduates included workforce certificates in addition to associate degrees. | For the first time in Benjamin O. Davis high school’s history, dual credit students from the school graduated with their associate degrees. | The college also had the first graduate (in Welding) that came from the new partnership with the Evolution Academy. Evolution is a drop-out recovery school— a new focus for Lone Star College-Houston North. | The largest increases in graduates, in terms of percentage, were workforce students—led by the fields of Human Services, Business, HVAC, and Welding. | All commencement ceremonies are filled with inspiring stories, and this ceremony was no different. There were foster care students that earned degrees, several of our graduates were parents themselves, and we even had grandmothers, including Barbara Stanford, a 55-year-old grandmother that proudly walked across the stage to earn her degree in Human Services. |
Overall, it was a great event for the students and the college. Mayor Turner highlighted many of the services the college is able to provide. These are all due to our incredible partners. As with all of our milestones, they would not be possible without our great community partners. Special thanks to each of you for continuing to support Lone Star College-Houston North.
Sincerely,
Quentin Wright, Ed.D.

Our Panther Pact Emergency Fund is a safety net for our students, with 100% of the proceeds helping them directly.
We are the most diverse Lone Star College institution and our locations exist in the lowest-income sections of our system’s service area. However, for the past three years, our students have continually had some of the highest completion rates within the system.
We invested a lot of time into developing partnerships so we can help students in a cost-efficient manner. We've helped students remove barriers such as food insecurity, clothing and toiletry needs, textbook costs, as well as a technology divide.
Your contribution will directly support a student in continuing their legacy.
