Seattle's Benchmarked Buildings Reduce Emissions Nearly 5%

City's largest buildings are using less energy and reducing climate pollution

SEATTLE (Sept. 26, 2018) - A new report released today by the Seattle Office of Sustainability and Environment reveals that Seattle's benchmarked buildings are reducing climate emissions, saving money, and improving performance. Seattle's Energy Benchmarking ordinance went into effect in 2011 and requires owners of commercial and multifamily buildings 20,000 sq. ft. and larger to track their energy performance and report it annually to the City of Seattle.

Survey for Energy Efficiency Retrofits

We invite you to participate in an online survey entitled: Energy Efficiency Retrofit Implementation in Buildings. This survey is part of the dissertation of Lysandra Amanta Medal, a Ph.D. Student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Washington, in collaboration with Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia.

The research will investigate the decision processes related to prioritizing building energy efficiency retrofit projects. Your response will provide valuable insight that will be used to investigate the key considerations when implementing energy efficiency retrofit in a portfolio of buildings in a global context. In addition, participants may choose to be entered in a drawing to win one of fifteen (15) $20 Starbucks gift cards.

Controls Specialist Apprenticeship Opportunity

The immediate need for skilled controls-oriented specialist by local employers affords a unique opportunity to build a new talent development structure, where the technical skills can be learned largely on the job.  A group of employers, led by MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions and Siemens Corporation, have committed to a public-private partnership with West Sound STEM Network and South Kitsap School District to establish the first of its kind controls specialist registered apprenticeship program for youth and adults.  Together, they have convened a wide range of employers with high schools and colleges in the region to create the nucleus of an apprenticeship program that is scalable across the State.
For more information about the program, please contact Melanie Danuser at [email protected]

Regional Pump Data Needed

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) has undertaken a research project in support of their new Extended Motor Products (XMP) Initiative.  The XMP Initiative is focused on accelerating the adoption of more efficient motor driven products, and the current research is focused on characterizing Circulator and Commercial & Industrial pump operation in the Pacific Northwest. One of the goals of this initiative is to make it easier for pump owners and operators to scope and install efficient pump systems, driving the cost of operation for pump systems down.
A recorded webinar explaining the program is available here and slides from the presentation can be found here.
Participation in the research includes submitting pump characteristic information on commercial and industrial pumps and circulators, as well as logged operational data (e.g., speed, flow, power). NEEA has a team dedicated to helping facilitate the data collection and make it as easy as possible for you to submit data. Additional materials and data collection forms are attached and available online here: https://conduitnw.org (search for XMP Initiative).  If you are interested in participating in the XMP Pumps Research please contact NEEC at [email protected] or via phone at 206-292-4793

Thank you, and we look forward to working with you to transform the pump market in the Pacific Northwest.
