LET'S PULL TOGETHER

SASKATCHEWAN ROWING = SUMMER FUN

April 1st is our new membership year with Rowing Canada, so let's start with a welcome back to all of our rowers across the province, and send a big welcome aboard to those new rowers just joining programs for the first time. We are a strong and vibrant community of rowing enthusiasts and folks who just like to be out on the water!

Across the province, our clubs are busy planning for a full summer of rowing fun. Prince Albert has Learn to Rows, Beach sprints and some youth camps planned at both Christopher Lake and in PA. Lloydminster is busy filling their new indoor training bay with youth and master athletes who will get out onto the water late May. Regina has a robust plan to offer exciting new programming over the summer and the first Regatta of the Season Western Canada Sprints on June 10th. Saskatoon has an exciting new team of coaches are excited to invite everyone out onto their new dock, for another year of rowing adventures. In addition to our existing clubs, we have some exciting plans for programs running out of Yorkton, Humboldt, and LaRonge.

This past winter, SRA focused on increasing our adaptive rowing programs, Indoor Rowing Schools and supporting our clubs to create great programming through our continued coach mentorship from Head Coach Andrew and the development of province wide training programs. With the introduction of the new HP Masters Camp Series, we hope to prepare some Senior Master crews to take their regatta success to the next level.

And with it being our 50th Anniversary, we look forward to celebrating with you at our event later this summer. Please visit our 50th Anniversary Event page on facebook for details as they are finalized.

See you on the WATER!

ADAPTIVE ROWING

SaskLotteries Adaptive Sport Program Grant

This past year, Saskatchewan Rowing was able to run weekly programming for members of the SaskAbilities outreach groups, thanks to a generous grant through SaskLotteries, and the support of the Saskatoon Rowing Club. These weekly indoor rowing sessions were offered to a diverse group of participants. The uniqueness of this program is that it can adapt both the program and equipment to meet varying levels of cognitive or physical challenges.

Another aspect of our Adaptive rowing focus has been expanding our competitive Para program. This past year, PR1 Rower Jacob Wassermann took up the challenge and through a dedicated training regimen was able to compete at the Virtual World Indoor Rowing Championship, winning GOLD in his first competition. Taking a break from rowing to focus on her other competitive sport, Sledge Hockey, Tracey Arnold continues to be an active recruiter for our adaptive program and an integral member of our adaptive program commitee. Tracy was selected as the starting goalie for the Women's Para Hockey of Canada team. Regina continues to support adaptive programming through open houses and local para athletes continue to enjoy the calm waters of the Wascana.

We ares extremly grateful for the ongoing support from SaskLotteries that make this programming possible. Rowing truly is a sport for all.

50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS - SaskRowing and SRC

The sport of rowing has a rich history in Saskatchewan. This year marks the 50th anniversary of organized rowing in the province, a milestone that is worth celebrating. Over the past five decades, rowing has become a popular and beloved sport in Saskatchewan, with many athletes achieving great success both provincially and nationally. And this is our year to celebrate these many achievements.

The first rowing club in Saskatchewan was established in 1907 in Regina, but it wasn't until 1973 when a group of enthusiastic rowers came together to form the Saskatchewan Rowing Association. At that time, the sport of rowing was relatively unknown in the province, and other than in Regina, there were no established programs or facilities for rowing. However, the founding members were determined to establish a strong rowing community in Saskatchewan, and they worked tirelessly to promote the sport and build the necessary infrastructure. This was also the year that the Saskatoon Rowing Club was founded, so we will be celebrating together.

Over the years, rowing has grown in popularity in Saskatchewan, and today there are four rowing clubs throughout the province. These clubs offer programs for all ages and skill levels, from beginner learn-to-row programs to competitive rowing teams. Many of these clubs have state-of-the-art facilities, including boathouses, docks, and training equipment, which enable athletes to train and compete at the highest level.

To celebrate the milestone 50th Anniversary of Saskatchewan Rowing, a member and alumni event is taking place on August 26th, in Saskatoon. More details will follow but to register and receive more information please visit our Facebook page and complete this registration form. Register here.
