Volume 10 - Issue 02 | February 2022
Our Jigsaw Puzzle Swap is Back!
Are you ready for another Jigsaw Puzzle Swap? We sure are!

Stop by during our open hours the Week of February 7th and swap puzzles!

Bring in the jigsaw puzzles you've completed (no missing pieces please!), and take home some new-to-you puzzles.

There are always a wide variety of puzzles and piece counts - including children's puzzles. And, as this is a week-long event, there's always something new on the tables.
Our Still New-ish Book Group
The brand-new WORDS (We Only Read Diverse Stories) book group is now underway and you are cordially invited to join us.

We will meet next on Tuesday, February 8th at 7pm and discuss "Seven Days in June" by Tia Williams

A little about the book: Seven days to fall in love, fifteen years to forget and seven days to get it all back again... this is a witty, romantic, and sexy-as-hell novel of two writers and their second chance at love.

Copies of the book can be picked up at the main desk.
Visit us on "Twos-day"
Get ready for the most Twos-day of any Tuesday there ever was!

We just can't let Tuesday, 2/22/2022 go by without doing something special.

Come on in on Tuesday, 2/22/22 and check out at least two items and you could win a prize (while they last)! All the prizes will somehow feature a set of 2.

Can't wait "two" see you then!
Library Mini-Golf Rescheduled!
Unfortunately, COVID-19 struck again and forced a postponement of the Library’s Mini-Golf Tournament last month.

Luckily, it's been rescheduled for Sunday February 20th from 10am-4pm. (Snow Date: Monday, February 21st.)

Come enjoy a day of fun and play on our 18-hole course inside the Library!

Cost is $5.00 per person and tickets will be available to buy at the door. Refreshments will be available for purchase as well. ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!

Family fun for a cold winter day!

Please note that while the library will be open, we will not be able to check in or check out books.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Parents and caregivers of toddlers and preschoolers, we have a fun challenge for you and your kids: our "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" project! Studies show that regularly reading aloud to children helps strengthen their language skills, builds their vocabulary, and lays the groundwork for them to be successful readers on their own.

You can help create that foundation by reading 1000 books with your child before kindergarten, and also earn fun rewards for your participation. That might sound like a lot of books, but reading one book a day for three years, or three books a day for one year, will add up to more than 1000 books!

The Nevins Library has adopted this nationwide initiative to help prepare all our children to be ready to enter Kindergarten.

Come by the Children’s Department to learn more about this enriching opportunity. Start reading to your baby, toddler or preschooler NOW and help them become strong readers and excellent students when they get to school later. Reading is FUN for the whole family.

What's Happening in Children's?
Bubbles!!
As we head into February and have another school vacation coming up, we have a very special program to offer that week: “Mike the Bubbleman”! He'll be here February 24 at 2pm.

This inventive, interactive program brings magic and science to the stage – through music, choreography, and comedy, Mike uses bubbles in all different shapes and sizes to spark imagination and wonder. You may even find yourself in a bubble!

Our new book groups for older children are gathering steam: “I Survived” for ages 7-9, “First Chapters” (early chapter books) for ages 7-9, and “Story Crime” (mysteries) for ages 9-11.

And then there’s our new collaboration with the Teen department, “Game On!” – a fun afternoon program that gives kids a chance to hang out together and try their hands at different games.

As ever, we’ll also have our usual variety of preschool programs, storytimes (including a bilingual program), science sessions, and craft clubs – keep an eye on the Children’s Department calendar and Facebook page to learn about these and other upcoming programs!

Happy February, and Happy Reading!
