Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

I hope that you have had a great week. It was so much fun to welcome some of next year's kindergarten students and their families to our welcome event on Tuesday evening! See here for some pictures.

On Tuesday, aligned with our Strategic Plan, including Restorative Practices, we had an amazing opportunity to have an assembly with Dr. Talaya Tolefree, who did an interactive read aloud of her book, Grandma Sankofa’s House. See here for a few photos.

This evening, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., our first grade students are invited to the K-2 Talent Development room (#214) to show some of their work that they created during class. Students have been inspired by the work of Norma Merrick Sklarak an Black female architect who worked closely with Cesar Pelli. We hope that families can join us!

Have a great week, keep reading, and I am grateful to work in such a caring community.

Sincerely,

Corey

Free COVID Tests

We encourage families to pick up a COVID test before spring break from your school’s main office. Please note that the shelf life of BinaxNOW tests have been extended by 7 months. Add 7 months to the expiration date printed on the box.

Does your family use the City-District calendar?

Families and residents can pick up the printed City-District calendar at St. Louis Park City Hall and all St. Louis Park Public Schools schools. In the interest to be fiscally responsible, we'd like to understand if families find value in having the upcoming 2023-2024 calendar printed and available to them.

Please fill out this 1 minute survey so we can better estimate the number of calendars to print.

SLP Summer Program Opportunities for Youth

Recognition - Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. It is a significant holiday for many of our students. From March 23 to April 21, practicing Muslim students will be fasting from dawn until dusk (approx. 5:30 a.m to 7:30 p.m). During their daily fasts, students will not partake in any food or beverage, and celebrations often involve gatherings and prayers late into the night. Students may be more tired and hungry than usual, and we ask our school community to be patient, supportive and understanding. It’s also appropriate to say “Happy Ramadan, “Ramadan Kareem,” “Happy Mubarak,” “Ramadan Mubarak” if you wish to acknowledge the holiday.

Community News

Help Make March FoodShare a Success!

March FoodShare comes at a time when there is an increased need in our St. Louis Park community and across the nation. Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign, now in its 42nd year, is the largest grassroots food and fund drive in the state. This campaign brings together organizations, businesses, faith communities, and individuals to help stock and support nearly 300 food shelves.

According to a recent Kare11 article, “prices for groceries have risen by 16 percent in the Twin Cities metro area.” Your support comes at a crucial time when the needs are high, and the donations are low.

Thank you for your continued support of our neighbors in need. If you have questions, please contact faith@stepslp.org.
