Big Saturday Hours News!!!
Yes, that is three exclamation points.

That's because we are very excited to announce that the Library will be OPEN on Saturdays from 9am-1pm this summer, excluding a couple of holiday weekends (4th of July weekend, Labor Day weekend).

We will return to a 9am-5pm schedule on Saturdays after Labor Day in September. We are very excited about these new hours, and hope to see you then!

The Nevins Library is working with the Tewksbury Public Library to bring you a series of virtual Zoom programs for today’s job seeker every Monday afternoon (except holidays) at 2pm.

A Trip To Cambodia with Travel Photographer Jack Holmes
How would you like to see the sights of Cambodia from the comfort of your own home?

Travel “virtually” with Jack Holmes to Cambodia as he investigates ancient Angkor temples and culture in modern Siem Reap, digs for origins near Battambang, and visits the massive central lake TonLe Sap.

Tuesday, July 19 at 2 pm via Zoom.
Adult Summer Reading
Did you know that adults are eligible for Summer Reading prizes too?!!

This year, our Summer Reading for Adults program will return to our traditional format: Starting Monday, July 11 through Monday, August 22, you can come into the Library and log a book you’ve read (or listened to) in the past week into our Summer Reading binder at the Main Desk.

This will earn you a raffle ticket for prize drawings, and each week we will draw multiple winners for prizes such as gift cards to local businesses and passes to Forest Lake.

What’s more, everyone who has participated in the weekly drawings will then be entered into a drawing for our Grand Prize – one lucky person will win a brand new Kindle Fire 7!

Can’t make it into the library to log a book and enter the raffle? That’s okay! Simply call the Main Desk at 978-686-4080 and library staff will help you.

We would like to thank the Friends of the Nevins Library and the Methuen Recreation Department for their support of the Summer Reading Program for Adults.
The Farmer’s Market is here!

Every Friday between 10am and 4pm, on the Library's front lawn, please come support the local farmers on the front lawn and pick up fresh fruits and vegetables.

The Farmer’s Market will take place rain or shine through the end of October and is organized by Groundwork Lawrence.
On July 29 at 1pm the Friends are sponsoring another “Chill Out” to coincide with the showing of a superhero movie in the Great Hall.

Come to the Garden Room before, during, or after the movie to get an ice cream sundae with all the fixings for only $5.

Even if you’re not planning on seeing the movie, you can still stop by for a delicious frozen treat to help fund your favorite library programs and initiatives!

For example, have you seen the work being done near the Library’s Main Entrance? It’s really a wonderful transformation, and we can’t wait to see it when it's done!

Just for Teens!
Hispanic Heritage Month Quiz Bowl
Attention Teens! The Nevins Memorial Library is hosting a Hispanic Heritage Month Quiz Bowl on October 2!

At this game show-like Quiz Bowl, teams of four will test their knowledge of Hispanic history and culture to compete to win a cash prize!

Do you have what it takes to win? Sign-ups for the Quiz Bowl are open now until August 30. Email our teen services librarian, Alison Cochrane, at acochrane@nevinslibrary.org for more information about how to sign up.

Forming a team to sign up for the Quiz Bowl is encouraged, but not required. Team Captains will receive an email with more information about the Hispanic Heritage Month Quiz Bowl, Quiz Bowl rules, and a Study Guide on September 1.

More Awesome Summer Programs!
Our summer is off to a great start, with lots of fun programs last month and even more in July! We’ve had record numbers of people signing up for our special events, but it’s still worth putting your name on a program’s wait list if registration is full – sometimes we’re able to open things up to more people.

And we have quite a few new programs added to the July calendar – “Superheroes Unite!” and “Party at the Palace” for youngsters; “Kindness Rocks” and “Stained Glass Mosaic Planters,” two great craft programs for older kids; and “Spider-Man Trivia” and “Egg-streme Egg Drop Experiment” for ages 5-11!

Plus we have many of our regular programs ongoing throughout the summer, such as “Family Storytime,” “LEGO Block Party,” “Books & Bubbles,” and “On the Move!” to entertain kids of all ages. Last but not least, don’t miss our popular “Little Bookworms” program every Friday morning at the Nevins Farm MSPCA – a wonderful collaboration where kids up to age 5 listen stories and meet friendly animals who live at the farm.

Just to add even more fun to the summer, we’ve got snazzy beads and badges to offer kids when they participate in Children’s Department summer programs and contests – come by the library to get registration packets and to start your Bead & Badge Bonanza collection. (Your child doesn’t have to be school-age to participate and to earn beads and badges, by the way.)

Keep an eye on the Children’s Department calendar and Facebook page to learn the latest about upcoming programs and special events – there’s so much fun in store!
