SB31 Improve Health-care Access For Older Coloradans is Official!

Senate Bill 31 - Improving Health Care Provider Access for Older Coloradans is official! Yesterday, Dr. Cari Levy, Dr. Bob Schwartz and Jodi Waterhouse, joined Governor Polis, Representative Mandy Lindsay, and Senator Jessie Danielson to participate in the Governor’s Official Signing of SB31.

Now the real work will begin! The CU Anschutz Multidisciplinary Center on Aging will lead this very important work with the appropriate Colorado State Department over the summer to begin implementation steps of the training program.

Again, a big thank you to all that supported and/or testified for SB31 in-person, virtually or writing compelling testimony statements during the 2023 Legislative Session. This was a big lift, and the work couldn’t have been done without all of you. I am truly thankful for your passion and support of this important work to train clinicians, across health care disciplines, in geriatrics care. This is a first step to address the dire shortage of qualified, geriatrics-trained clinicians, who can provide quality care to medically complex older Coloradans. CU Anschutz is a trailblazer with this type of Legislative initiative, and our hope is other higher education/states will take notice, and prioritize this type of legislation, so appropriate geriatrics care can be provided to older adults, regardless of where one lives.

For those involved in the training, a Consortium of higher education institutions will be created to bring together trainers from across the state. I will be back in touch with more details later this summer about next steps for Consortium coordination.

Colorado governor vetoes bill that would have given local governments

right of first refusal to buy multifamily housing

"Gov. Jared Polis on Tuesday vetoed a bill that would have given local governments a right of first refusal to purchase certain multifamily properties listed for sale. The Democrat sided with business interests that have been pressuring him to reject the measure, angering the legislation’s Democratic sponsors in the General Assembly.  House Bill 1190 was aimed at boosting affordable housing options across the state by giving municipalities and counties a leg up in purchasing properties and converting them into publicly owned affordable housing units. The right of first refusal would have applied to residential properties built more than 30 years ago with five units or more in rural areas and 15 units or more in urban and suburban areas ..." - READ MORE
