Join the Scout Sunday Brunch after worship this Sunday

On Sunday, February 11, brunch will be prepared by the scouts and served from12-1 pm in Fellowship Hall at Maplewood UMC.

All Scouts and Cub Scouts and their families, community members, and the people of Maplewood United Methodist Church are invited!

Hope to see you there! Yes, there will be pancakes!

What is Scout Sunday?

“Each February, around the time of the BSA’s birthday, we ask Scouts to focus on the 12th point of the Scout Law: a Scout is reverent. Through the celebrations known as Scout Sunday, Scout Sabbath and Scout Jumuah, Scouts can reflect on their faith. Every unit can celebrate these days as they choose — you can attend a worship service wearing a

full field uniform, participate in a worship service or conduct a service project for a religious organization.”

Scout Sunday is also a chance for scouts to show appreciation for the support our religious communities give Scouting

Two more Sundays to order Easter Flowers

To place an order for flowers to be displayed in honor or memory of a loved one on the altar on Easter Sunday, March 31, use the Communication Card on Sunday morning or click on this link 2024 Easter Flower Orders Orders are due by February 18.  Payment for flowers can be made online or via a check in the offering plate. Be sure to note that the funds are for Easter flowers.

Dear Friends,

We were so blessed last Sunday by the testimonies of Laura Reinders, Ray Jauregui, and Rachel Ward! I am sure you noticed that each of them exhibits spiritual leadership in a unique way that fits with their talents, spiritual gifts, passions, personalities, and life experiences.

When we share our faith stories, as several people have done during this sermon series, often the hardest part is taking the time to really think through and put into words how our “outwardly visible actions” are guided by our “inner, private spiritual life.” We have been blessed by the hard work done by the folks who shared their stories!

And, I believe, each of our speakers, whether we know them personally or not, have been blessed by the opportunity to do this hard work that allows them to identify the source of their leadership more clearly.

This is part of “self-leadership,” which is what we will focus on this Sunday. Sometimes self-leadership is our toughest leadership challenge. It’s not about learning to rely more on our own strength, skills, talents. Rather it’s intentionally choosing a life that is centered on Christ.

This Sunday you will also have the chance to identify areas of ministry, both within the life of the congregation or in the community, where you are called to be in ministry. What might your next step(s) be as you are Freed to Lead? The Nominations and Leadership Development Team has been working diligently on a resource that will help identify a variety of opportunities for using your particular spiritual gifts. If you haven’t taken the spiritual Gifts inventory yet, please try to do so before Sunday. Here’s the link: https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/spiritual-gifts-inventory/en

I am looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday. Remember that the Scouts will be with us this Sunday AND will be treating us to a Pancake Brunch immediately after worship!

God’s grace and peace be with you,

Pastor Kim
