The Governor and First Lady heard from and hosted women from every corner of the Commonwealth this Women's History Month.

Nearly 300 women welcomed to the Virginia Executive Mansion for Women's History Month


The Governor and First Lady hosted two Women's History Month receptions in March, honoring women leaders across Virginia industries in recognition of the impact that women are making in key sectors to make Virginia the best place to live, work and raise a family.

Supporting Expecting Mothers

The Governor has signed HB 2290 and SB 1314 into law, giving expecting mothers a pathway to appropriate financial support by allowing mothers to petition a court to order noncustodial fathers to share the cost of pregnancy and delivery expenses. Highest rates of congenital syphilis in decades seen in Virginia newborns

Addressing the Labor Gap with Universal Licensing

At Dot's Barbershop in Richmond earlier in March, the Governor signed into a law a universal licensure bill reducing barriers for skilled workers licensed in other states to come to Virginia. Special shout-out to caring cosmeticians and other licensed professionals!

First Lady Focus on the Partnership for Petersburg


Aetna Better Health of Virginia, one of the Commonwealth’s six Medicaid Managed Care Organizations, is offering several enhanced benefits to promote women’s health, support new moms and combat food insecurity. Women members aged 10 to 55 can receive a $20 monthly stipend to spend on period products! New moms can receive $25 monthly for over-the-counter items for them and their baby. Aetna is also rolling out food carts to support members facing food insecurity.

The First Lady learns more about the tradition of foxhunting in Cumberland, VA from huntsman John Harrison alongside the official Virginia State Dog, the American Foxhound.

Creature Comforts

Appreciation to the Commonwealth's vast agricultural and recreational traditions. The First Lady enjoyed learning more about the tradition of foxhunting through a visit with The Deep Run Hunt, part of the Masters of Foxhounds Association of North America, after the Princess Ann Hunt Club and others visited Capitol Square on Junior Foxhunter Day.

Richmond artist Sukenya Best’s portrait of Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, unveiled at the Mansion during Women’s History Month, highlights core aspects of Sears' life and character. The portrait is on display with the Art Experience. Sears is the first female Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the first Black female elected to statewide office.
