CHURCH CONFERENCE SCHEDULED

The church will be called into Church Conference to vote on two items on Wednesday, February 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the church conference room.

The two items we will be voting on:

1 - CHURCH TREASURER POSITION: Joe Hughes has asked to be relieved of his Church Treasurer duties after many years of service. Thank you, Joe!

After discussion and meeting with a candidate, the Administrative Leadership Council recommends Scott Kelly, a retired CPA and former church administrator, for the position.

Scott joined our fellowship in August. He has served in many church positions, including church administrator in Tuscawilla, FL, and at First United Methodist in Forest City. He studied accounting for two years at Stetson University, in addition to four years at Duke University to prepare as a CPA and eventually added the credential PFS (personal financial specialist with investment designations) to his title.

2 - RENTAL OF CHURCH FACILITIES: The staff and Administrative Leadership Council are reviewing our Building Use Policy with an eye towards making the building more accessible to others who might need the space. We are recommending changing one line of our policy. Currently, groups operating for commercial gain are not allowed to rent the space. The ALC is recommending that groups operating for commercial gain be allowed to rent the space with the approval of the ALC.

MINISTRY TEAM OPPORTUNITIES

There are many opportunities for service at FBCR, and our Ministry Teams welcome

your involvement! You are encouraged to join a Team(s) that fits your interests and

gifts. Where is God leading you to serve? Whether you are interested in hospitality,

landscaping, community outreach, working with children or youth, supporting the

incarcerated, or visiting those who can no longer attend (to name a few of the

opportunities!), there is a Team that would benefit from your strengths.

Please lookover the updated descriptions of our 2024 Ministry Teams, and prayerfully consider where you might become involved. Blessings ahead, as we work together!

CHECK OUT WHAT'S HAPPENING:

  • Lenten devotionals are free and available for you to pick up beginning this Sunday and anytime throughout Lent. This year, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14.

  • You are invited to stay for lunch following worship on Sunday, February 18 in Fellowship Hall. Baked spaghetti is on the menu, and all proceeds will support Peter Moore with his Concert Choir mission trip to Normandy, France.

  • Welcome Table has enough chili volunteers (thank you!) but could use some desserts! If you could donate individually wrapped cookies, brownies, or cake slices without much icing for February 5 and 12, please let Nell Bovender know (call or text 828-429-9129).

  • We are looking for Valentine treats for our nine college students. If you can help, please bring your homemade or store-bought treats to the Fellowship Hall Kitchen on Sunday, February 11.

  • We regret that our Red Cross blood drives have had to be discontinued. It is hoped that our regular donors will look for other locations to give blood.

  • ILLUMINATE, our youth group gathering, meets on Sunday nights from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Each week they share a meal (provided by families from our church), an ice breaker or game, and then enter into a time of conversation around the original context of the passages for the week.

  • HopeWorks, a community afternoon program that meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays, is in need of canned drinks, snacks, gently used clothing, and shoes. If you can help contribute, drop your donations by the church office.

  • The Yokefellow item for February is canned meats. If you can donate any, please bring them to the church office. Thank you for your donations in January, we collected our goal of 30 cans!
